Re: List of pre existing disorders

Just wanted to see if I could get this list. I came down with very sudden, severe pre-e in 2010 & had some tests done but I'm curious if I had them all done and if any new tests for underlying conditions have come out since. Thank you!!

Hey Molly, it hasn't been published yet, but we're almost there!! Sorry for the delay; our very awesome research writer tries to be as thorough as possible, and on articles like this, we always have to run it through the appropriate medical authorities. When we finish it, I'll definitely push it out here!

We are in fact in the process of writing an article about all the tests you might consider having done as part of inter-conception care (between pregnancies) to test if there are any underlying disorders of which you and the doctor should be aware. This might include clotting disorders, liver disorders, autoimmune conditions (like lupus) and others.
Does anyone know if this article was ever published? I'm looking for and up-to-date list of tests to ask my doctor about. I don't plan to get pregnant again but I am concerned about my health moving forward.

I can't speak to all of them, but yes, all of ours were blood draws.

I wish you best of luck at the appointment. I found our pre-conception appointment very reassuring.

Best,
Lauren

Hi guys!
Do you know if most of these tests are blood tests? My husband and I are getting ready for a pre conception appointment with maternal fetal medicine doctors and just was curious what to expect,
Thanks!
Elizabeth

Hey Kate,

Not a stupid question at all! And the answer is, absolutely. We are in fact in the process of writing an article about all the tests you might consider having done as part of inter-conception care (between pregnancies) to test if there are any underlying disorders of which you and the doctor should be aware. This might include clotting disorders, liver disorders, autoimmune conditions (like lupus) and others.

Unfortunately, some women are still a mystery and all their tests may still come back negative! But if you do have an underlying condition, it can be extremely helpful to get the condition under control before going into another pregnancy. For many women, treating that underlying condition can improve their outcome.

Can these tests be ran NOT pregnant? To see if you have any of these things BEFORE pregnancy? Sorry. I'm sure this is a stupid question.

Here is one list from this thread:
http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31665
Your doctor might want to do some different tests. This list is about 5 years old, but I think it is still reasonably current.

"There are several lists of tests floating around on the various preeclampsia sites, but here is the most comprehensive one I've seen (my OB recommended most, but not all, of the tests):

Lieden Factor V mutation R560Q (DNA test by PCR)
Hyperhomocysteinemia MTHFR Mutation (DNA test by PCR)
Prothrombin Gene Mutation 20210 (GA) (DNA test by PCR)
Protein C levels
Protein S levels
Activated Protein C activity
Antibodies to 6 phospholipids of the IgM, IgG and IgA classes
Lupus anticoagulant antibody
Russell Viper Venom time
Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT)
Prothrombin time (PT)and Partial prothrombin time (PPT)"
