My apologies for this past-due post. The incoming donations have slowed to the point to where we can finally announce our results.
The best word to describe this year's Walk- Fantastic!!
It proved to be more successful than we anticipated. With nearly 350 participants, our event raised $20,000.
It was an overcast day, but pleasant. Being forced to a different location (due to flooding) 2 weeks before the Walk, we were concerned on the turnout we would have. But we were proven wrong. Brady Street Stadium proved to be an ideal location. It's not like we had never been there before. We spent many a night there during Shelly's high school days, as she was involved in band and a cheerleader. Perhaps it was meant to be. I somehow think so.
The Weinermobile was a big attraction, for the young and us not-so-young. We had various mascots present, and the guest speakers who told their experiences with preeclampsia were excellent. State Representative Elesha Gayman (a classmate of Shelly's) read letters of support from Iowa Congressman Bruce Braley and from Iowa's First Lady Mari Culver.
I think the biggest and most pleasant surprise of the day was the media coverage. We had 3 TV stations present, and each of them had a segment about the Walk on their nightly newscast. Totally unexpected, but heartwarming to see the efforts of raising awareness are starting to show results.
Our efforts will continue...
Thank You.
I'll post some pictures when I figure out how :)
