Hi everyone! Hope all your planning is running smoothly. I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on in the baseball world as far as the Walk-A-Thon is concerned. The Tampa Bay Rays said they would help by donating a ticket package and/or autographed item for a raffle or prize and a few players are going to make an appearance. In Toledo, the Mud Hens are thinking about sponsoring; are allowing us to set up a table at a game to promote the walk (and in doing so also raising awareness), are sending their mascot to the walk to accompany a really cute player (my husband) to sign autographs and will hopefully be able to help us promote on their jumbo-tron (I haven't asked about that yet). The Detroit Tigers (the major league team affiliated with the Mud Hens) said they would give us anything we needed (tickets, autographed stuff, etc.)

I have several girlfriends whose husbands play for different teams, so I'll be spreading the word about the walks to the ones who are playing in the cities where the walks will be held. Hopefully they'll be willing to get their hubbies to make an appearance. I'll let the coordinators in those cities know ASAP.

If you have any teams, whether they're minor league or major league, in your area and want to speak with them about sponsorship, first look on their website (they all have one). Some of them require you to put requests in writing. So, you can write your letter and be sure to include that the Rays and Tigers are helping out. If their website does not tell you how to contact them for donations, call their community relations department. If you have any problems or have any questions, please let me know. [:D]

Alli--that is so very exciting. I am a huge baseball fan. My brother played ball for USC and I have four (FOUR) boys in baseball--so I am thrilled beyond belief at this amazing assistance. Truly moving-and may I say--you are such a beautiful woman--I am sure your husband must be very handsome indeed.

Thank you so much. That was sweet of you to say. I adore my husband. Baseball is awesome...traveling for it stinks, especially with two kids. Doug has really supported me in my passion for the PF. I really believe that everything happens for a reason and I believe God lead us down this path to help others. Hopefully we'll be able to get all the teams involved in future events. Baseball fans (the ones I've met anyway) are amazing when it comes to their community. Please let me know if you can think of any other ways we can help. Thanks again for the compliment! Here's an update: The Minnesota Twins have just jumped on board. The guy I spoke with is going to put our event on their scrolling message board, give us a ticket package for a raffle and consider anything else Jaime needs (when she calls him-Jaime, I'll be emailing you his information). [:D] He said even if an involved member hadn't been a part of the "baseball family" they'd still probably help our cause. I highly encourage any of you that I haven't spoken with about this, to call your local major league community relations department and ask them to help out. So far, we have committments from the Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, and Toledo Mud Hens (minor league). It is encouraging that everyone I've contacted has been VERY eager to help us. So, ladies, don't forget to support your local team this year...they've been awesome about supporting us! [:p]

GREAT idea about partnering with baseball teams. If only Portland, OR had one! BUT, I am looking into a partnership with our lovely Portland Timbers soccer team. All donation requests must be typed on the organization's official letterhead. Any chance I can get an electronic file of the PF letterhead?
