Sherry--
I have GERD ( Gastro Esophigal Reflux Disorder ) or irrosion of the esophogus due to acid reflux.
Anyways.... IT has gotten HORRIBLE!! since I have been pregnant. I was taking AciPhex every day pre pregnancy and have had to continue to take it daily with this pregnancy. I have been told my my doctors that it will not harm the baby one bit so I feel okay taking it.
You may want to let your doctor know of this Reflux. The only reason I say this is because if you let reflux go without treatment it errodes away at the lining of your esophogus and your esophogus to protect itself starts to narrow and close off.
If you let it go too long you may be on meds the rest of your life like me and have to have surgery to re open your esophogus like I had to have.
AciPhex
Prevacid
and
Nexium
all work very well. I would say that AxiPhex would be the safest because that is all I have seen pregnant women perscribed but I am no doctor.
Tums does not help me and when you have such bad recurring reflux like you are experiencing tums wont do the trick but for about 15 minutes or so.
If you ever get an ithcy feeling in your scalp or back of the neck during your reflux that is a sign that the refulx is very bad and should be curbed with meds.
I hope this helps you,
Christy

Re : acid reflux?!
Sherry,
I had it so bad with my last pregnancy I would be crying. I felt like I was having a heart attack at times. It is the WORST! I took mylanta and that kind of worked. It seems like you are doing the right thing - calling the doc and staying on top of it. I hope you get some relief. I experienced it even post partum - but I hope you don't.
Take care,
Suzanna

Sherry & Trisch,
I'm sorry, that does not sound fun [xx(]. My doctor told me she thought that Mylanta works a little better than Tums. No personal experience with it but, just thought I'd share.

Re : acid reflux?!
I have had terrible Acid Reflux the last few days also! I have been eating tums like crazy! Doc says they are fine and they give me extra calcium! My mother has always said that if you have heartburn your baby will have hair! My first had so much that I could put a bow in it and my second was born at 36 weeks, so she didn't have much, but she did have hair! I didn't have heartburn all that bad with the 2nd one though! This one I am having like you, acid in my mouth and I hate it. Good Luck!

acid reflux?!
Need advice here from someone who has had acid reflux during pregnancy. Is this normal? I have had terrible 'heart burn' like sypmtoms, but I will actually have the 'acid' come up into my mouth?!?! YUCK! This has been going on for the last couple nights. Mostly when I lay down at night. I have found that Tums will help before hand...even if I dont have heart burn at the time. I experienced heart burn with all of the kids...but not to this extent!
