My son was a 35 weeker. He was 4lb 15oz. He was diagnosed at 4 with ADHD. He started medication after 3 weeks of kindergarten and after MANY consults with his teacher and Ped. He is 10, still on Meds, and doing perfect!!!!!

Hi Aimee,

I have a daughter who was 2lbs 6oz at birth and is now 2.5 yrs old. She also has many adhd symptoms already. At her last developmental checkup 6 mos ago the specialist actually said to us that she thought our daughter has/would get adhd. Many people are surprised to hear this as she is so young, but we did not disagree with her diagnosis. What type of symptoms does your son have? Our little girl goes from thing to thing all day and can't focus long enough to watch more than about 2 minutes of TV. She keeps us busy!
Good luck on info from other moms. I will be reading the answers with interest.

Preemies & ADHD

Postby aimeejane » Sun Dec 21, 2003 04:19 pm

Hi ladies!!!!

I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted. Parenting two is energy-draining, isn't it?

~*~*~*~

Here's an informal survey:

I've recently been doing a lot of research into ADHD, because Nicky is displaying most of the classic symptoms. In my research, I found reference to three different studies that indicate about a 50% higher chance for ADD/ADHD for preemies under 1500 or 1000 grams at birth (can't remember which #).

Has anyone's tiny preemies gotten to the age where they have been diagnosed with ADHD? Just curious...trying to kill time until we next see the doctor! [:p]

Dh - 29
Ds Nicky - 3/24/00 (28 wks - eclampsia)
Ds Kalen - 7/10/03 (36 weeks - preeclampsia)
