specialist??

I am pregnant with my 6th and had severe postpartum PE with my previous child. He was born at 36 weeks and 5 days later I had what we believe to be a seizure and 6 days later I was in a CCU with bp 195/120 and fluid in my lungs. My pulse was 43 and I was put on nitroglycerin.

I'm 20 weeks with my 6th now (I'm 30 years old) and seeing a regular ob. I see that you suggest seeing a specialist but I live in southeastern Alabama (Andalusia area) and we do not have those kind of specialists nearby. I have 5 children that I homeschool so traveling 4 hours to see a dr. would be hard. BUT is it that neccessary? Should I still insist on seeing one? And would I still see my reg ob too and deliver here?

I'm not sure if I got this info to you in time and I haven't read to see who all answered you about it - I'm just jumpin in here............as far as a specialist in bama - when I seized and was air lifted to hosiptal if it hadn't been for Dr M***** at ******* *********, I prolly would have just died here in Fort Payne, due to the LACK of knowledge of eclampsia within this city. My mom said I was in the coma when they called in Dr M***** and she immediately told them what was happening to me and to "start the prayers" - If I were you, I would def go see her, call her, e-mail her, if you have any concerns.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I delivered in Mobile at the university hospital. They have an excellent staff for high-risk mothers and an excellent NICU. I know it's pretty far for you, but maybe at least one consult would not hurt. What does your ob say about it? Sometimes there are high-risk doctors that travel to other areas for a monthly "clinic." There might be something like that in your area. Also, I have heard good things about the hospital in Montgomery that takes high-risk deliveries and NICU babies.
