Thinking of you all...She looks like a mean storm...I just saw them break in on NBC and were showing all those people lined up at the superdome..So sad...Looks like a bad situation all together....
Hurricane Katrina
Re : Hurricane Katrina
Cara, I'm so glad you were able to check in. I hope that the power stays on, but if not, I'm glad y'all are able to come here to get out of the main storm.
I really hope that NO does better than they're predicting. I fell in love with the city after going this past January and DH and I had planned on going back every January for our Christmas present to each other. I've been glued to Fox and Weather Channel just watching to see what's happening. I'll be praying for your family and hoping that NO is spared(along with the rest of the Coast).
Keep us posted on how things are going in BR, Cara. I had thought about calling you today to find out if y'all were doing ok, but figured you had enough to deal with today. Glad you were able to check in.
I'll let everyone know how it goes here.

Re : Hurricane Katrina
Just sending my thoughts that you all remain safe...we could use a bit of rain up this way - but not the hurricane!
Re : Hurricane Katrina
Keeping you all in my thoughts out here from CA. Looking forward to your check-ins and hearing you're all weathering this alright.
Re : Hurricane Katrina
Ladies!
You're all in my prayers and Cara you're family especially! Traffic has been heavier here in Hope, but I'm not sure if it's a result of Katrina or just heavier than normal Sunday traffic.
Once again...you all are in my prayers!

Hi Mandy!
we're all fine up here. I'm expecting some bad weather and power outages, but that's about it. The grocery stores were packed yesterday, but not so bad today. Lots and lots of people coming in from down south.
Jimmy (DH) is a "first responder" due to his job (social worker for LA DH&H, he works with people with developmental disabilities), so he may have to go down south at any time to work in a shelter - he'd be working with people from nursing homes, developmental ceters, etc. I'm trying to get him shaved, bathed and a bag packed as I type this, LOL. But I hope that he doesn't have to go...I hope there's no need. It's not looking good, though, is it? [:(]
Cara, I am so sad about NO. I am praying it doesn't hit there. What I don't understand is - we've known this was coming for hundreds of years - why hasn't the state done something about it? When I think about all those people lined up to go in the superdome because they are just going to be stuck there it breaks my heart. Not to mention the absolute environmental disaster it is going to be (think about "cancer alley" flooding - god) and all the cultural treasures that stand to be destroyed.
I can't imagine no more Pat O's, no more Audobon zoo, etc. I don't usually get all involved with weather stuff, but it looks like katrina is going to be a real b****.

Re : Hurricane Katrina
Hey-
we're hanging in there...we are supposed to get high winds and LOTS of rain/flooding. During Andrew power was out for a week so if it's like that again, I'll be up in Vidalia.
My family is here from New Orleans and it looks like my hometown is going to you-know-where in a handbasket.
I'll KIT as often as possible!!

Re : Hurricane Katrina
Hey Rachel,
I'm in Vidalia, LA which is about 3 hours north of New Orleans, right on the MS River across from Natchez, MS. We're in the path of the hurricane, but probably once it comes on land and gets to us, it'll be a lot less severe than it is now.
I know the last hurricane that came up this way had people going all the way to AR to find hotel rooms. Has it gotten that bad this time?
