Session 1:
So we started grief counseling on Friday. My husband and I were both nervous because we have never been in therapy before. By the end of it, we thought our first session was a positive experience. She started by getting a feel for how our marriage was prior to and after the loss of our son.
I like our therapist because she really articulated well: our concerns, acknowledgement of normal vs. abnormal thoughts or behaviors, and she really tried to understand more of our backgrounds.
She also explained how the counseling sessions would go. She gave us a book so we can read and gave us a bit of homework to do.
I just thought I'd share my first experience seeing a counselor. I was timid, at first, just because I felt uncomfortable sharing something so intimate with a stranger. But I didn't feel uncomfortable at all.
Any of you went through grief counseling?
