i'm from toronto or close enuf ;) i was on 5 day vacation in whistler bc when hellp came on suddenlly. son was born at bc women's. have to say vancouverites were awesome thx! we flew home 4 weeks later to north york general.

it's lovely to "meet" other canuks here :)

Mommy to baby boy Adam, born at 30 weeks 1 day because of preeclampsia. IUGR 988 grams birth weight. At 5 months, he is 10 pounds and 11 ounces, a cheery and social baby, much to the continual gratefulness of his parents.

Hey there,

I'm from Toronto and 35 weeks preg with my second. My first is 11 so I have been told to treat this preg as my first...I am also over 35! No previous experience with PE, but this preg I have had borderline PIH, and in the last week a trace of protein has popped up...so I am a little anxious (no good for the BP!). Anyway, I am in good hands with my GP & OB/GYN, and if all is well, I shall have the little bean by repeat C section on Jan 24th .

It's good to see a Canadian presence!

I'm a Canadian chick, too (Alberta). I suffered through the HELLP bit for 5 months of my pregnancy (it went undiagnosed) and miraculously, my daughter was unaffected and I recovered. Myranda is a healthy 2 year old and I'm grateful to be alive.

Hi Canadians! I'm in Toronto. My pre-e came on suddenly at 30 weeks and I had an emerg. c-section a few days later. My son spent 7 weeks in the hospital but thankfully he thrived and is now a very energetic 1 year old. Like many of the people on this site my big obsessive question is whether it will happen again in a second pregnancy. My specialist (expert on pregnancy and blood pressure issues) says go for it, my ob-gyn says beware. I was feeling optimistic but the more postings I read about reoccurance in people who had severe, early-onset pre-e, the less optimistic I feel.

I would feel guilty getting pg in the first place if the pre-e were to happen earlier and be more damaging or fatal to the baby. I also worry about the stress on my dh and I if and when the symptoms start showing up. I know there are no answers but if you're in the same boat or have any advice or second-pregnancy stories, I'd love to hear them!

I am in the same boat! you should post this in the ask the experenced part of the forum. You'll get more responses. Talk to your dr about what they are going to do next time. Like are they going to put you on baby asprin or bed rest once they see signs.

Suze, welcome! I am pg with my second now and I see a perinatologist, which is the specialist that is recommended on these boards I believe. He is a great dr so far. I am almost 13 weeks, and he says i have a 1 in 5 chance of getting PE/HELLP again (I got it at 30 weeks suddenly also with DS) I am also taking low dose aspirin bc he said he's seen success with it and second pregnancies without PE. I don't know that you should feel guilty for wanting another baby. My SIL had a second baby after a perfectly normal first pg. Her second was born at 27 weeks for no reason that they could see. I think things can happen no matter what your history, but now that htye do know your history, a peri can be extra careful. Mine said he will see me once a week starting 24 weeks to monitor any signs of onset of PE, plus do an extra u/s to monitor for growth retardation. I guess I can introduce myself also, instead of just lurking[:I]
My name is Paula and I'm in cambridge, Ontario.

I delivered my twin daughters at 33 weeks 3 days due to Pre-E:(
They spent 3 weeks in NICU and are now 2 perfect 15 month old babies!
Once I delivered them, all my pre-e symptoms disappeared...well other than the swelling that lasted another 3 or so weeks!

Hi Kim and Paula and manalc and others! (I'm Susan.) Good to hear from you. I delivered at **********, then after a week in the NICU Spencer went to *********** for six weeks in their Special Care Nursery (it was great). I was pleased with all my care; the most hilarious moment (what am I talking about, the ONLY hilarious moment) was when they gave me morphine for my pre-e headache right after I was admitted. I couldn't believe I'd been avoiding even cold medicine and now I was getting pumped full of the hard stuff! Oh my gosh, I can't believe I am almost at the point where I can find some aspects of the ordeal amusing.
