In this population, the high prevalence of thrombophilic factors and chronic hypertension was confirmed. There were small differences between groups. Hereditary thrombophilic disorders were associated with fetal growth restriction but not with type of maternal disease, suggesting an effect on placental function. Maternal body mass index was lower in women with HELLP syndrome.

ok the only part I really grasped from this was that BMI was lower in women with HELLP. Is that true, do thinner women get HELLP more regularly than PE?

I am the only person in my family that is short 5'3" (everyone else is between 5'7" and 6'0"....and I'm slightly bitter), but we are all thin. I am the only one with any sort of pregnancy related condition.

Is there anything related to small stature and risk of PE, or LOW LOW BMI (17 or under) with a higher risk?

It's not that they get HELLP more frequently. It's that overweight women get PE more frequently than normal. HELLP is about .4% of pregnancies in women of normal body weight. HELLP doesn't peg well to BMI at all: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16579791

Being underweight during childhood might be a risk factor for hypertensive pregnancy: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16567065 I'm not sure anyone has followed up on this study.
