Hello Ladies,

My name is Amanda, I gave birth to Evelyn on May 22, 2010 at 24wks 6days. She weighed 8.5oz. She passed away on May 25th. My OB diagnosed me with PE. My highest BP was 177/110 and was spilled 2+ with little output.

I can say that in general life sucks right now. I am bouncing back and forth between "this is my fault" and "Why couldn't this have been prevented".

My fiance and I would like to try again but, will this happen again?

There is a lot of information out there about the chances of recurrence - my advice would be to meet with a specialist to see what your chances are. I was told by my perinatologist that usually, if you get PE again, it is less severe and occurs later in the pregnancy. In my case, I ended up with just high blood pressure. My labs were trending towards PE levels, but I went into labor prematurely, so it didn't have a chance to progress.

There are so many unanswered questions after experiencing a loss like this, but you can be sure that getting PE wasn't your fault. That was the first thing my peri told me - there wasn't anything I could have done to prevent it. I guess that's one of the most frustrating things about PE - we have absolutely no control over it.

The first few months are the hardest, but it will get better with time.

I am so sorry about the loss of your baby. I agree, when you are ready, meet with a high-risk doctor and do a pre-conception consult. Having a plan helps. My doctors wanted me to wait a year before trying, it turned out we waited almost 2 years. Take care of yourself

Sorry to hear of the loss of your precious daughter. It is one of the hardest things to deal with. I wanted my daughter so much and was shattered when I lost her. I still wish she was here with me.

I had to have a c-section with my birth and because it was so early into the pregnancy, they told me that I had to wait at least 6mths before trying again, otherwise there was a high change of uterine rapture. I think it took us over 12 mths to finally fall pregnant again. But they were a very long 12mths. My biggest advise now, is to get tested for any underlying diseases and talk to specialist. Make sure you have it all organised for when you do try again.

So sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you. Be gentle with yourself. As the ladies suggested, get testing done and see an MFM. I lost my first, and before we tried to conceive again, we educated ourselves. We learned so much. Our second pregnancy was PE as well, only it was MUCH less severe, managed by keeping me on hospital bedrest for the final 9 weeks of pregnancy, and the outcome was a healthy baby. It can happen and I wish it for you. take little steps. hugs.

One thing you may want to ask your doctors about is her size, if they haven't already mentioned it. Our daughter was born at 23 wks 2 days and was only 10 oz, but she was about 2 weeks behind on growth at that, since you were further along and your baby was smaller, it is something I would definitely bring up with them as it's one of my major concerns when we get pregnant again.
