Fiona, I can't help organize, but I might be able to come up for the walk!!! Are you doing it on the same Saturday as the walk is listed? Oh, I'd so love to convince dh to drive up for it. Keep me posted.

As Fiona knows, I'm a pre-eclampsia researcher (obstetrician-scientist)based at BC Women's. My wife, Laura Magee (obstetric internist), and I share the leadership of the local pre-eclampsia research group and are very interested in becoming involved in a local chapter of the Foundation. We are very interested in participating in the Walk-a-thon - if all else fails, I may be able to prevail upon our infrastructure here at the hospital to help arrange things..

As an aside, UBC has agreed to host a Canadian account for the Foundation so that Canadian donors can receive tax receipts. That will be co-ordinated through my office. I anticipate that the arrangements will be made over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, that'll make donating from Canada more attractive.

I was just wondering what was happening with a Vancouver WAT? We had emailed awhile ago, but I received no reply after my last email. I would be interested in helping with any fundraising events. I am in Kamloops, so hopefully the majority of work could be done via phone, email, fax, etc. with only a few trips down. Thanks.

I'm very glad to have discovered this website and forum, as I was recently diagnosed with eclampsia. I delivered twins on April 9th, (via c-section at 37 weeks and 4 days) and had a very healthy pregnancy. No history of high blood pressure - it was actually on the low side during most of the pregnancy. We had been home from the hospital 4 days when I started to have problems - headache, vision problems, swelling etc. I didn't know very much of the condition so I didn't recongize the symptoms. My husband ended up having to call the ambulance for me when I passed out at home, and I had a seizure in the hospital. I ended up staying in the hospital for 4 days and am very lucky by all accounts. The nurses and doctors were all amazing. I'm now back home, enjoying my time with with my twins baby boys, my 2 1/2 year old son, and my husband. This has been a life changing experience indeed.

The Vancouver WAT is going ahead on May 10th along the Seawall at Spanish Banks (west of Kitsilano beach). It will be a friends and family walk and we're hoping to have a picnic at Jericho beach afterwards.

I was hoping to get to San Diego but timing and finances are not working out--but I bet Bonnie and I (and other Seattle/Washington area members) would carpool or caravan up for the event. That is excellent news from UBC and Dr. von Dadelszen!

We have a great picnic coming together - one of the city's top chefs is donating her services - and if we get a nice day, I think it will be a lot of fun.

Please let me know if you're attending - I'm trying to keep track of numbers for catering purposes.
