My OB did not want me to take those levels as well. I am on 1,000 iu plus whatever is in my prenatal. My levels are still 23...we are watching my vit d levels every month or so to make sure they do not get too low. They were 11 pp last time

TextSO was there a difference when you took your vitamine d with calcium? Did you get Preeclampsia? My vitamine d is an 8 should be between 20-100 just redid test to see if it is back to normal.

Thanks for sharing. I've been taking a calcium plus vitamin D supplement since I found out I was pregnant.

I wanted to post a follow up, I just found out my vitamin D is low even though I live on the sunny Texas coast and my daily multivitamin contains 800 IU (but I haven't been taking it every day, more like every other day). My vitamin D level was 19 out of a reference range 30-60. And I have a positive ANA.

I may get my vitamin D levels tested too. I have an allergy to dairy, and don't get any in my diet. Even though I live in Colorado where I'm getting good sunlight, I wonder if I generally get much less vitamin D because it is added to milk?

Heh, yes I do. It's a new press release but the study was published three months ago: http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22897

Very interesting. 5 fold increase is tremendous but the sample size in this study (only 55 woman with pre-e) seems very low to me.

Either way, I guess I'm glad I've been taking Caltrate that has calcium and vitamin D in it since before even TTC. My OB said it couldn't hurt to take it-but of course each woman has to check with their own doc.

This kinda worries me. I am not overweight, in fact alittle underweight and no known blood/autoimmune/thyroid/Pcos. I sun tan all the time, even while pregnant, took procription prenatals, and calcium with vit D and I still got PE severely twice. I should get my levels tested just to see.

I've also read some speculation about low vitamin D levels possibly contributing to development of autoimmune disorders.

My mom has psoriasis also, but it only flares up when her thyroid levels are wonky. (There are all sorts of fun autoimmune disorders in my family tree).

I was living in Phoenix when I got PE, no obesity or PCOS or thyroid problems. However, I do have psoriasis, which has something or other to do with lipid metabolism and vitamin D.

It'll be interesting to watch.
