This pilot study found that 2 prominent sources of statewide health data underestimated the frequency of inpatient deaths in Texas due to preeclampsia.

One reason we were classed as a "rare and orphaned disease" at the NIH for so long is that our deaths kept getting misclassified, especially the ones that happened postpartum, as due to something else. Depending on how you count us in the records, either 9, or 17, or 26 women died of preeclamptic complications in TX during this two year period. And this is *after* we changed the way the US counts maternal deaths IIRC.
