Developed HELLP with 2nd pregnancy too

I developed HELLP at 36 weeks with my now 2 yo daughter. The doctors weren't too concerned about me getting pregnant again. I had no complications this pregnancy but 2 weeks ago at 35 weeks had some of the symptoms I had last time and went to L&D to find out I had HELLP again. I've never had a problem with blood pressure. My platelets dropped to 16 and liver enzymes were 1500. Both of my kids were born via emergency csection under general anesthia. This second time was more severe than the first time I got HELLP but thankfully Ive recovered. The doctors have said I should not get pregnant again. Does anyone know the chances of me getting it for a third time?

I am so sorry to hear that you developed HELLP again. I hope you and your little one are doing well now.

It is extremely uncommon to develop HELLP in two pregnancies. I think you will get some better informed replies soon.

I have had HELLP twice now. My Son was born at 36 weeks and my daughter was born at 27 weeks. My doctor told be because it came on earlier and more sever it will only get worse. He told NOT to get pregnant again and told me if I did that I would die. He had no problem with me trying for my daughter. My daughter was 1 lb 8oz and 12in long She stayed in the NICU for 80 days and has some health problems mostly with her lungs. If she would have been fine like my son was I might have tried again but seeing her go through what she did makes me not want to try again (even though I wanted a big family).
If you really want more as for a specialist consult, they can do some lab work and see if you have any underlying conditions. They can also give you a good idea of the chance of having it again.
