Question about GD

First, I'm not pregnant again (boo!). I do have a question though.

When I met with a new MFM we talked about how I have PCOS and how I deveoped GD in my pregnancy with Gracie. I forget what exactly I said- something to the affect of me reducing carbs or sweets or dieting or something, but I do remember him saying "I'd rather have you eat what you are going to eat and then we'll treat the diabetes when/if it happens."

I have been dwelling on this recently. Is it irresponsible of him to say that? Shouldn't he say "Eat a healthy diet, it's better for you" or would he say that because I probably am going to develop it again because of my history?

I can see how that comment would rub you the wrong way. I think he underestimates what an angel mommy will do to bring home a healthy lil' one- we're probably the most compliant and observant patients on the planet! Perhaps he is used to folks starting eating one way and then stopping mid way through pregnancy or something and throwing the body for a loop?

The comment does seem odd, but maybe he thinks he is just being realistic based on his experiences with other patients. "Dieting" can be bad during pregnancy, depending on what you mean by the term, but I don't think limiting sweets is a bad idea, whether or not you have gestational diabetes.
