At 27 weeks, I had an ultrasound and Gabriel measured 49th percentile and everything looked good. The OB office does growth ultrasounds to measure weight and other measurements every three weeks. At 30 weeks, Gabriel measured 39th percentile and I had lower fluid (11 to 9). That's when I questioned the whole thing with my friend who is a tech. Yesterday, I had another scan. Gabriel is measuring in the 19th percentile. He weighs 3 lbs 13 oz (up from 3lbs, 1oz three weeks ago). My OB actually showed me the report that is generated by the US computer. His abdomen is measuring right but his head is in <5 percentile. I guess this means I have IUGR? My fluid levels dropped from 11 to 5 since Friday. But, the last time they told me this, it went back up at the next US 3-4 days later. My BPs have been normal to high normal (130s/80s) but I have had a few days of high BPs (over 140/90 but not many beyond this parameter). I am maxed on aldomet (3000 mg/day). I am not sure that the meds are working since he is not growing fast enough. He is moving and he moves a lot, which is good. He was trying to breathe at the US yesterday. On the BPP, he did well on each category except fluid. I have been diagnosed with PIH only. I am not spilling protein. In my last 24 collection, it was "inconclusive". When my OB got those results, she called them and they told her I had almost no protein in the collection. My PIH blood work (liver and platelets) are normal. My OB told me yesterday that we would wait until it was obvious that growth was completely restricted before inducing and her hands are kind of tied since I don't have pre-e. She said I would be induced if BPs were 160/110 or higher, my fluid levels dropped some more, there was a decrease in fetal movement OR if I developed pre-e. I am 33w2d today.
If Gabriel is measuring smaller than normal (in weight, he is a week behind) how might this affect him if he is born soon? I understand that he will likely have trouble breathing and learning to suck/breathe together. Does anyone have experience with a similar situation? I am really open to all situations at this point because I really have no idea what to expect except the NICU and I don't even know much about this. I worry that if his head is so small he might encounter a brain bleed or something similar. Everyone keeps saying "Oh you've made it to 33 weeks, you are doing great, everything will be fine you are far enough along." WHy don't I feel relief with these comments?
Thanks for anything you have to share. I am a little scared and sad that this is happening.
