Wanting to try again but haven't reached my goal...

Postby amallison » Fri Jul 13, 2012 09:54 pm

of losing as much weight as I wanted to, but I'm going to turn 39 this fall and think time may be slipping away. I had severe HELLP with my first pregnancy, but have a wonderful healthy boy who only spent 10 days in the NICU. Have any ladies who are/were struggling with weight issues gone on to have less stressful second pregnancies? Would love to hear others experiences.

We've had many women with successful second pregnancies! There are no guarantees, but it's possible. Have you had a consult with an MFM to determine your specific risk factors and chances of recurrence? I pulled a few general links for you as well -

Do those links help at all? Please ask more questions! I'm glad you found us but sorry you had to.

I was overweight by bmi standards for my first 2 pregnancies. After I developed severe pre-e and hellp at 23 wks, I asked my mfm how much I should lose before ttc and she told me my weight wouldn't really make much of a difference in her opinion. True enough, I went in to preg #2 about 20 pds heavier than I started my first disasterous pregnancy, while I did develop GD (I have pcos so that's pretty common), I didn't get pre-e or hellp at all the 2nd time despite extremely high odds of it due to my severe early onset case the first time.

I agree to talk with an mfm first. Good luck!

Yes these links do help. Thanks you. I am currently scheduled to go and see three doctors next week. The high risk specialist from the practice I went to during my last pregnancy. A new doctor at a somewhat smaller practice, and a MFM at the Women's hospital.

I am terrified to try again because the thought of not being around for my baby boy is horrible, but I also want to add more to out family. The love he brought in was amazing and I selfishly want more.

I'm not terribly overweight, size 14, but I feel like I haven't done enough. Thanks for your response.

One question you might want to ask your doctors is whether in your case it would be more beneficial to start trying soon due to your age and/or to lose more weight. Good luck and let us know what your doctors say!
