Questions re: Procardia XL and pre-eclampsia

So I called the doctors office and am waiting for a reply... Last bp 10 minutes ago was 153/92. Funny, I thought my bps would be down today since I started that med!! Thank, everyone for your reassurance. I'm so glad I found this site! I hate calling the doctor so much. I don't want to be "that" patient, but I also don't want to have a stroke or something! And I want my little boy to be healthy!!

Dr said to lay on my left side and take my bp in an hour. It was just 181/89. Waiting for my husband to come home so i can go to l&d...

Well, I'm at l&d. Dr thinks my severe headache is due to the procardia. They are changing my med to labetalol. I've been here for about three hours and bps have been 140-150/80-90. I just took my first labetalol, so we'll see what happens... I would really really like for my headache to go away! They did draw labs again. So we'll see what those show. I will keep you posted! Thanks again to everyone for your input!!!

So glad you went in. I hope the headache is just medication related, either way- glad you are there and being monitored. It's the best place to be with so many symptoms. Keep posted when you can.

Well, I started the labetalol last night when I posted and within 35-45 minutes my bps came down to 120s/60s. I felt soo much better. Headache went away and I felt wonderful. They discharged me saying labs were fine and to stop procardia and use labetalol twice a day, 200 mg. I took that one at 1030 at night. Got up for my ultrasound at 730 and had headache again and bp 148/87 without getting out of bed. Hadn't filled the prescription yet cuz we got released at1 am and had us appt at 8. Went to ultrasound where my little guy is doing fabulous, measuring a week ahead, but had terrible headache the whole time. Finally got my prescription, so hopefully headache will go away soon! Thanks for everything so far! I'll keep you guys posted!

I can't believe a hospital released you at 1am without a prescription! Oy! What is your provider thinkin' about your pressure related headache?

I'm not sure as far as the headache goes. They seem to think it was due to the procardia, but I'm pretty sure it's due to the pressures. I just don't know...

Hi guys, sorry it's been a few days! Update... Since I started the labetalol I have felt remarkably better! It took a few days for everything to even out and for the med to work the entire 12 hours, but now my pressures are consistently 120-130s/80-90. Still a little high for me, but yay better than how I was feeling previously! Swelling has gone down, lost four lbs from last weeks appt to this week. I'm able to do more around the house also. According to my ob yesterday, baby is still really high, but this is my fourth, so I know he probably won't drop til I go into labor... I now have to go for nonstress tests twice a week and bpps (ultrasounds) once weekly until I have him. I Joe 36 w 3 days today and he said he won't let me go past 39 weeks. I thought that was a little far, but I guess he's okay with me continuing since I'm doing well on the meds... The headache came and went according to my pressures the first three days on labetalol, but since then it's been gone, thank goodness!!! Hopefully things continue on a positive note! Thanks again everyone for your support and encouragement! It's nice to know other people know what you're going through! I'll keep you guys updated!
