My results at 21 weeks were 213. I am worried but the lab tech says doc isn't concerned because my Bp has been good so far. Says unless I hit 600 he doesn't worry. 600!! Is this normal? I thought anything over 300 was trouble?

From what I just read around 150 is normal, it varies by lab... so it sounds like you are kinda sorta almost in normal range :-) Did you have one done before you got pregnant or early in the pregnancy to compare it to?

I wonder if your doctors are considering your numbers baseline proteinuria, since you're so early in gestation and not showing bp issues? So they won't be worried for you personally until you show higher degrees of proteinuria?

We highlight the exceptions a lot around here, where protein appeared first, or HELLP happened without bp or proteinuria, or any number of combinations that the docs just don't expect because we didn't present anywhere near textbook, but those really are the unusual cases. We want our docs to be aware that we *could* be presenting atypically and watch us closely, but I think we can take reassurance from the typical disease presentation, especially when we have good doctors.

In your shoes, I'd ask your doc directly why he wouldn't be worried until 600mg for you *personally*, when the diagnostic criteria is 300mg.

I like this expert thread on proteinuria
http://www.preeclampsia.org/forum/viewt ... ria#p58248
"It has been my experience that there is a small cadre of patients who suddenly develop proteinuria with borderline blood pressures who subsequently flare with the full deal (eclampsia, stroke) within the next two weeks, certainly a departure from the usual pattern as depicted by **** of blood pressure first, protein second."

The part I take reassurance from is that the typical pattern is a rise in bp first, proteinuria later, (HELLP / neurological-eclampsia later than that). But again, we've all seen the atypical cases around here so it doesn't hurt to just ask your doc what they're thinking.

Thank you all. I will be seeing my MFM next friday the 28th for an ultrasound and will certainly be asking questions. This ultrasound will tell alot, at this point in my last pregnancy my son Benjamin was already behind in growth. I am hoping baby girl is growing as she should be. The strange thing is my Bp has been lower then ever lately, 108/68, 98/66?? I am not chronic hypertensive but my norm is usually 120/75, 117/72. I have heard something about a 2nd trimester bp dip?? I have no clue what this is so will post that question now lol!! In the meantime, trying to stay calm and relaxed until my ultrasound.

Yours isn't horrible but I would just be overly cautious, ask for a 24 hour in a week if you want (and again in a week) if your gut tells you to do so. I had one about 3 weeks ago and it was 160. Since my bp was steadily rising and I knew preeclampsia could strike at any time, even worse hellp, I wanted a 24 hour done a week after the last testing. Guess what, a week later, my count was 598. And I was released from labor and delivery (by doctors who didn't seem too tripped out over the protein) only to be induced 3 days later. So, it could be not as huge a deal or you could be days away from delivery. Just listen to your gut and your symptoms.

9/16/2012 ~ Michael Leon was born, God is so good! Severe pre-e again, induced at 34 weeks, c-section due to baby's heart decelerating with each contraction. 1 week in NICU. I'm done! :)
