anyone had a Dr that wouldn't sign them off to fly?

I am shifting countries in my 34th week and the airline I am booked with suggest that for flights under 5 hrs (which it is) that I carry a letter. It doesn't look like they will be too bothered until 37 weeks but they suggest you get medical clearance and confirmation of dates. Has anyone had a Dr that wouldn't sign them off? If anything will make my bp increase it will be the stress of having to stay behind with nowhere to live while my husband and children go ahead. I have had PET in my previous pregnancies but am a slow burner. The OB I have is deluded enough to think I have a minimal risk of getting it this time so I hope to get a letter off him asap.

You shouldn't have a problem unless you start having some sort of issues. But, I would get the letter now to avoid that. Really if you just got a letter showing what your EDD is that would be enough for the airlines since like you said they just need "clearance" after 36ish wks. Just make sure you walk the airplane often and drink plenty of water while you're flying

Also for what it's worth, I've flown a lot while pregnant (MFM and hospital a flight away from our home), the latest I flew was 35w, and flight/gate attendants never said boo to me about it... and I'm tiny so I look enormous pregnant (and actually was extra big because of extra fluid).

Obviously since I was going to see my doctor flying was fine by my them (short 1hr flights)- but just wanted to share my experience at the airport- no one seemed to care, though I suppose that might be different in other countries and a letter would give you more piece of mind.

We also always drank lots of water, and on longer flights made sure I walked around frequently to keep blood moving around.

Thanks for the advice and your stories ladies! : ) I am hoping it will be no big deal also. Unfortunately our media in NZ is making a deal of pregnant women flying at the moment with a budget airline who are being inconsistent and preventing women from flying despite them not even being pregnant so it's topical. Hopefully it dies down by the time we fly : ) Can't wait to be settled in and relaxing.
