Can it skip generations?

I think I've discovered where my HELLP came from. My great grandmother lost many babies...once she had a stillborn child and she had gone into convulsions. My grandmother, however, had 3 children without any issues whatsoever. My mom had pre-e with me, and I had HELLP. So is that possible to randomly skip generations since my grandmother didn't have any problems with any of her kids?

My grandmother had was sounds like preeclampsia during her first pregnancy with my dad... she also has collitis and I have crohn's so I think it can, and I think I take after her.
