Wife 28 weeks....

...and she hasn't yet been diagnosed with preeclampsia. But she has a lot of protein in her urine (don't have a number) is definitely swelled up, including in the hands, feet and face, had a very rapid weight gain in the last two weeks. The one things she doesn't have is hypertension. We are monitoring her bp but haven't had any hypertension to speak of. We are going to our normal 28 week appointment on Monday and then to a kidney specialist right afterward.

Has anyone seen all of this without the hypertension? Is it just a matter of time? So far, no bedrest, no hospital, but want to see if there are other opinions out there. From everything I can tell, it's a serious condition, but at 28 weeks, prognosis for mom and baby is still very, very good, provided we are vigilant and careful.

Welcome to the forums, but I am sorry you had to find us.
Even though PE is diagnosed with proteine of at least 300 mg proteine in a 24 hour urine catch and two BP readings of 140/90 within 6 hours, it does not mean that both symptoms will show up at the same time and/or in any particular order. I am glad that you and your wife are so vigilant. PE can turn bad quickly. I don't know when your appointment is, but perhaps you can contact your doctor or hospital sooner and let the medical staff decide if you should be seen sooner. I would also insist on bloodwork.

This happened to me in my 3rd pregnancy. I had a 24 hour urine come back with 700+ mg and was very swollen. (About 30, 31 weeks.) They expected the worst and gave me steroids for the baby's lungs and expected we'd have to deliver anytime. My blood pressure occasionally flirted with "high for me" numbers but never got super high. (My normal is 110/70's, it got as high was 130's/high 80's, and I did have a few high readings that were around 140/90 but they were readings that were far apart and never stayed high. Anyway, we made it all the way to 37 weeks, but it was stressful, I had appointments 3-4x a week the last couple months.

Thanks, angieb. That is the closest thing to anything I've found on the Internet. Obviously no two cases are alike, but it's interesting to hear about something rather similar. Thank you.

With my first one I never had any high bp readings until I went into labor at 40 weeks, although looking back I had all the signs and symptoms well beforehand.

BTW I went from being normal in the doc's office the day before to into the 200's that night. Don't know what any of my other numbers were. They didn't test me for pre-e because my bp wasn't high.
