First appointment with the peri...

Postby princess purr » Wed Jun 05, 2013 09:21 pm

Sooooo they couldn't get the NT measurement... the ultrasound tech lady wasn't very talkative and made me feel like there was something wrong, but doc didn't say anything was wrong, and doesn't want to see me until 20 weeks. he didn't have the right notes for me so he had to give me a call back after the appointment. The baby's heartbeat was 153 and I saw arms and legs. I just left the appointment feeling kind of blah. I thought I was going to be so thrilled and excited after the appointment, but I just feel kind of worried and stressed. I think it was because every other time I have had an ultrasound the tech has pointed out lots of things. This one was king of just dry like, heart beat, stomach, leg, arm and that was it. On top of that, I thought there would be more talk about what to do to try to prevent the preeclampsia, but it was just like take baby aspirin and I need to start lovenex.
I am thrilled the baby has a heart beat and is growing on track (measured 12 weeks 2 days) but I just was expecting to feel different after this appointment.

My first appt with the peri was disappointing as well. They didn't do an NT measurement at all- even though I asked for it. They just did a dating ultrasound and said everything looked good. Then the Dr. came in for like 2 minutes, asked me how my BP is (I'm chronic hypertensive) and asked if I'm taking baby aspirin. That's it. I was actually very disappointed because I drove over an hour to see them. (and got a large bill :x )

My doctor explained it to me a little better... they don't really "worry" much with you until you hit viability because there's nothing they can do up until that point. Since there isn't really anything to do to prevent preeclampsia, then it's kind of up to fate (and you to do what you can to keep yourself as healthy as possible). My doctor did tell me that REST was the most important thing. She told me not to over do it and make sure I rest a lot. So, that's what I have done. Are you doing a baseline 24 hour urine and liver function tests?

I also found out that the peri comes to our local hospital on certain days of the week, so I just see them there. Mostly for ultrasounds. I had one at 12 weeks, 18 weeks, 22 weeks and I am scheduled June 12th and I will be 28 weeks.

I hope your next appointment is much more satisfying. I know what it's like to leave feeling "blah" about the appointment. You want them to take your situation more seriously and be more proactive but they aren't. It's frustrating.

It's unfortunate that doctors go to medical school, but charm school isn't required. ;)

I remember leaving many appointments feeling kinda blah, I think because you expect to feel so reassured, only to find out, until that baby is safely in your arms you just never really feel as assured as you would like. I'm thankful to hear baby was measuring right on track and had a nice strong heartbeat- hang on to that positive news! :)

Thanks guys. Today was even a worse appointment with my normal OBGYN...
So I get to the normal OBGYN and she keeps asking if the baby is moving...say what?? I'm 12ish weeks, how the heck would I know. Then we argue about my due date, she says 12/20... I said uh no, the other doc said that my first ultrasound I measured 6 weeks 3 days, the tech had 6 in the report the measurements were for 6w3d, but by O date. I should have been 6 weeks 5 days. Anyway, long story short, I'm stuck with 12/20 on there paper even though I measured 12 weeks 3 days yesterday.
AND THEN! She went to look for the heart beat, ask me to hold up my stomach (seriously???) and then just zipped around all over really quick. I was like last time they found it here, and I have found it a few times there. So, she says I want you to get another ultrasound right now. O-M-G
So we drive 1 minute to the hosp, wait what feels like forever and then finally we get taken back and there is the baby jumping around like a nut. They didn't give me the beats per minute, but yesterday they were 153. So, I'm like so stressed out right now, She gave me the script for lovenex and i'm supposed to start it, she said to call the office and a nurse would show me how to do it.

Oy vey. I'm sorry you're not finding confidence in your care- in our pregnancy after our loss, our solid care team is what saved my sanity. Are there other providers in the practice you can try out?
