Now, I'm not sure if I'm being extra paranoid or if this pain is real. Well.. I didn't even think of what it could be until a while after I first started feeling it. Since yesterday I have been having some really bad URQ pain. :/ It's only in the back, and feels like its underneath my rib cage. It throbs and then every once in a while feels like someone stabbing a sword into it. I did have major back surgery just over a year ago, but it was much lower. I know all the different back pain feelings, and have had a lot of it this pregnancy. However, it is all very low, like into my tailbone. I know I need to call, but I'm inclined to wait. I have a feeling they are just going to think that since I *made* them give me my numbers, that I am just paranoid now and that is what they were trying to avoid. But obviously I need to be my own advocate no matter what anyone thinks of me. I honestly hope its just paranoia.

Thank you so much Lauren! ( Nice name by the way! Its mine too :) I don't know why my ob didn't do a baseline. I did ask in the beginning and he said we don't need to worry about it yet. I think because my numbers never got too terribly High with Brielle and my baseline was always 0 before. But its definitely a bummer that we didn't because I see the advantages of doing so. my ob is a high risk doctor at one of the most prestigious hospitals in the country. he is actually the head ob now. I completely trust him with both mine and my baby's lives. He has sent me to a few specialists to check my blood flow during this pregnancy and it is OK while laying down for the ultrasounds but sitting or standing changes that. I did not have any blood work in between pregnancies. I will push for that this time. I think the reasoning for this though is because he fully believes the reason is my crushed arteries. And he also believes I have POTs syndrome most likely caused by my crushed arteries. this is where when you stand up your pulse goes crazy high and can cause your blood pressure to do the same.
I will be having growth checks every two weeks from now on. He will start NSTs when he feels its necessary. my next appointment is on sept 9, I'm so anxious for this one because it will be the first time I actually talk to him and not the nurse since I found out my 24 hour results. I had a blood workup this past week as well, and when the nurse called to tell me the results she again just said "within normal limits" and it sounded a little fishy like maybe it was elevated. it could just be my paranoia! Haha. I wish I had asked her for the specific numbers, but I'm not too familiar with them so I wouldn't have known what she was talking about.
Oh and as foe the growth checks, I'm not sure that I mentioned how they are going. this is what I have been worried about the last few weeks. Baby is small. not iugr yet but has been between t11%-19%. With my iugr history, I am suspecting she will also be iugr. I'm hoping that she is able to cook as long as possible so there's no nicu stay needed. Brielle did wonderfully and was able to go home 3 days later, at 4 lbs 10 oz. I pray this baby can at the very least get to a size like her big sister!

Given your history and your unstable pressures and symptoms in this pregnancy I think you are right to be concerned. Have you been seen by a maternal fetal medicine doctor (high risk/peri)? I would want a referral to one right away.

You mentioned this was your first 24 hour of this pregnancy- often in a subsequent pregnancy a 24 hour is done early in the pregnancy to get a baseline as there can be damage to the system from the first pregnancy or unmasked chronic issues. In our 3rd pregnancy our baseline at 10 weeks was around 200... so later when we did 24 hours and were at 300 yes it was all moving in the wrong direction, but we took it with a grain of salt (no pun intended!) because it was only 100 more than I started at.

I would really want to be sure I was being seen by a high risk doctor who could review my history- and what has been going on so far with this one. I'm a lil' concerned that given your history and the need for meds so early on that a 24 hour wasn't started with. Have you also had a full blood work up in between pregnancies or in this one to check for underlying disorders? And is baby getting regular growth checks?

Keep posted as you can-

23 weeks and pre e on its way... second time around here

Postby meekonserj » Sat Aug 31, 2013 09:57 am

I am 23 weeks pregnant with my second daughter. Unfortunately I am back here. I don’t believe I ever posted about the outcome of my previous pregnancy, so I will give you all a little background and then get into what is going on in this current pregnancy. PLEASE oh wise ladies, give me some feedback! :)
My daughter Brielle was born in July 2011. Around 20 weeks my blood pressure started to go wonky and I had some strange symptoms that I was concerned about. My OB at the time was not concerned in the least, so I went to my family practitioner who sent me immediately to an OB at her practice. This OB was great and genuinely concerned. He had me on weekly visits from that point on. At my 20 week ultrasound, we found that Brielle was only in the 26th percentile. Not bad, but small. My blood pressure continued to stay high but stable. I had ultrasounds every visit, and OB would check B’s growth every couple of weeks. She was steadily declining in her growth. She went from 26% to 12% to 8% to below the charts.
As far as protein, I had a baseline done at 6 weeks because of an underlying condition of a crushed artery. It was at 0. When my blood pressure started skyrocketing around 25 weeks, I started weekly 24 hour urine tests. That stayed at 0 until 27 weeks, where it rose to a low, 81. 30 weeks it was at 208 and 33 weeks 289. All under the cut off for pre-e. But my blood pressures went from 140-160/90-100 around 25 weeks and got up to 160-170/100-110 towards the end. I was on nifedipine, and then switched to labetelol somewhere down the road. I was in the hospital on and off this whole time, and having biweekly NSTs because of B’s size.
Finally, at 36 weeks when I had a growth scan for the first time since 33 weeks (for whatever reason) we realized that B had not gained any weight at all in the last 3 weeks. We scheduled induction for the next week. Why we waited a week I don’t know…So Brielle had a whole month of no growth. She was born at 4 lbs 15oz. Completely healthy and strong as can be, but tiny. She wasn’t on the charts at all. Now, at 2 years old she is still a tiny peanut, and just made it into the first percentile!
Onto now! This pregnancy has seemed pretty decent. My blood pressure never fully returned to normal, and fluctuated between normal and 130/90ish. So I got back on blood pressure meds (labetelol) right away, and it kept my bp to normal for the most part. Until the past couple of weeks. Especially this last one, it has been 155-160/85-95 all week. So my OB had me come in on Tuesday. He sent me home with my first 24 hour urine for this pregnancy! Oh what fun! Anyways, my results from that came back today and the nurse said its “within normal limits,” and was very hesitant to give me a number. She knew that I knew my stuff and would be concerned. So finally I called back and she gave it to me. My protein is at 23 weeks is 201. Of course under the cut off, but that’s where I was at 30 weeks with Brielle! And I was on moderate bedrest then from 25ish weeks and strict bedrest where I couldn’t even sit up from 30 weeks! So 7 weeks of laying ALL the time. Is that what is in store for me again (with a toddler)? Or is this a faster moving pre-e?? I’m so worried about both the baby and myself! Or is this not even a time to be concerned yet, since the protein isn’t over 300? I know it goes into the thousands so I feel like complaining about 200 and being scared of that may be silly. As far as symptoms go, I have had “the” horrible headache, getting worse every day, lots of floaters in my eyes- I call them ants because that’s what it looks like for me, some ankle swelling which could just be normal, and I just absolutely know when my blood pressure goes up, I can feel it. My pulse has been extremely high (before I became anxious over all this) and sometimes I find it hard to breathe. Please, tell me honestly- do I have a reason to be concerned? And has anyone had a story similar in any way? I would love some insight, advice, or stories! Thank you so much for being here for me AGAIN to fall back on! I love the support on this site! <3
