Hey all!
So Monday 3/30/10 started off like any other day... well freaking out about being induced Thursday/ Friday.
I woke up with a dull backache - no biggie I slept on a hospital bed for 5 weeks straight! Honestly it was like a 4/10 ( I have heard I have a high pain tolerance - but I just barely asked for tylenol.
Went to my NST and was having contractions every 5 minutes - when the backpain was worse. Hmmmm.... a 25 minute strip showed a reactive baby and 5 contractions. Got sent back up to my room - a dr. checked and surprised me by saying I was at 3-4 centimeters. They hooked me back up to another monitor and no contractions showed, but the resident was like "you can't fake 4 centimeters - let see what your dr wants to do".
He decided it was time to have a baby ... and he was on-call that day! I went to L&D and my contractions were picked up again on the monitor. After an hour on pit I asked for my epidural and was 5 cm. The made me empty my bladder first and when I came back and got my backed swabbed for the epi - whosh - my water broke.... and broke ... and broke. They asked if I had extra fluid (nope!) because there was so much! Got cleaned, got epi and had an internal scalp monitor placed. Baby's heart rate dropped into the 70s-80s for a few minutes. In those few minutes I was continously rolled from side to side, oxygen masked and ultimately placed with my head upside down and my feet up in the air. Hubby was decked out in OR scrubs and we were ready to go.... then everything stabilized. Whew.
Labored without the pit for 2 hours and hit 8-9 cms but only 90% effaced and baby still a bit high. Everytime I laid on my back baby would have a serious decel. Every contraction brought a small decel. My doctor checked me again and was at 9 - but when I laid on my back - decel again. I was whisked off into an emergency section and Louis Vincent DellaGatta Jr was born at 1:02 am on 03/30/10. He weighed in 4 lbs 10 oz & 18 inches with APGARS of 9/9.
His cord was very tight around his neck - the pushing process would not have been good. Thank god my doctor acted quickly and decisively and he got to deliver.
My boy is doing great! Blood sugars seem good so far (and mine are too!), He is maintaining his temp. He *should* be able to come home with us saturday 4/3 when I am discharged. We were told to make sure to buy a new carseat for his carseat challenge in the NICU. He has been rooming in with me and dad!
