Hi there, I decided to look up preeclampsia because I'm not feeling at all well today. I've just been reading Kelly's post and was interested about the hyperthyroid theory.
I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease (severe hyperthyroidism) about 8 years ago when I was trying to get pregnant. I had my thyroid removed and fell pregnant almost straight away.
When I was 36 weeks pregnant I went for my checkup feeling fine. But my BP was up and I had a trace of protein, so they put me straight into hospital and induced me a week later.
I got pregnant again after only 3 months. The same thing happened again, exactly the same except I had noticed some lights in my vision the day before my 36 week checkup.
The third pregnancy was a bit different. At 33 weeks the doctor sent me to hospital for my BP. I never got any other symptoms but the BP was higher than with the others. I was induced at 37 weeks, just like the others. Unfortunately my BP never went totally back to normal afterwards.
Now I'm pregnant again. My BP went up the moment I got pregnant so I've been on medication the whole time. At almost 31 weeks I started getting swelling in my hands and feet. I saw the doctor a few days later and he said I'm okay but take it easy and get some rest. I'm currently 32 weeks, the swelling is getting worse and today I'm feeling dizzy and sick all over. After reading some of the info on this website I think I'll go to the hospital to get checked out. Better safe than sorry[:)]
