Ovulation Tests

Have any of you tried a saliva ovulation test? I saw one at the store the other day for about $20. It's a reusable slide and magnifier device, and the box says that the hormones in your saliva make a fan-like pattern on the slide when you're ovulating. It would be a lot cheaper than the pee sticks, especially when I'm using 2 or 3 boxes a month.[}:)] Much better for the environment, too. But does it work?

Hi Carol,

I have never used the saliva test but have read good things about them on other boards. Most importanty that they are very easy to read as the fern pattern is very clear when O occurs.

I used OPK's in April and two boxes later never got a LH Surge. I was alittle surprised to find out we were expecting 2 weeks after when I should have O'd!

See if it comes with a "not happy" return. Give it a try and if it doens't seem to be working send it back. However if it does work then you will be saving a bundle. (but hopefully you won't have to use it for long [:)] )

Good Advice, Erin- and I, too, have heard positive things about the efficacy of the the saliva tests. Definitely a good investment, imo.

Thanks, guys--I knew I'd get good info here! I'm going back to the store tomorrow. Erin, you're feeding my fantasy that I'll magically find myself pregnant after a month of negative ovulation tests.[^]

Not to feed the fantasy too much [;)] but, I just had to add that I also used an OPK when trying to conceive my son and never saw the second line, two weeks later I got a +++ home pregnancy test...

Hoping that you get a little surprise very soon![:D]

Thought I would just add to this.....I actually had a negative test re ovulation from the hospital, then on cd40 was persuaded to do a pregnancy test and it was positive!!! I was about to start fertility treatment again, but they got it wrong!

That makes three! I got my little magnifier today. If anyone else is interested, they have them at KMart for $20.
