safe to take during pregnancy?

Does anyone know if Coricidin is safe to take for sinuses during pregnancy?? My Mother-in-law told me this morning that it does not raise your BP, therefore my F-I-L took it alot before he passed away. Tylenol Sinus is doing NOTHING for me anymore. I am on antibiotics, but not helping yet. I have cold sores from blowing my nose so much, all over...and they hurt SO bad! Therefore, I have to find SOMETHING for this sinus crap because I cant blow anymore! [V]

I am So miserable! Someone give me some advice, please!!

Hi Sherry,
I don't know if that medication is safe during pregnancy, but one thing that helped me with my sinuses while I was prego, was Boiling water with some eucalyptus and then steaming under a towel...My sinuses would totally drain and it would help moisturize my dry raw nose!!! Hope you feel better soon!!!

I did a search on WebMD and here is the link about Coricidin. It looks they don't know much about it's safety during pregnancy.[:(]

I just got over the raw/bloody nose thing and I feel for you. Mada's idea sounds really good, I wish I would've thought of that! Also, I had my nose covered in vaseline, not so attractive but, it helped keep it moist.

My OB said no to Coricidin b/c there are not enough pg women studies with it. She said she'd rather me take half a dose of Benadryl if I absolutely had to. Mada's suggestion sounds good!! You could also try a humidifier, cough drops, Vick's Vapor rub, chicken soup... [:D] Hope you feel better soon!

A friend of mine is in her third trimester and is taking Sudafed. I know they say it can cause a rise in BP, but it's never done that to me when I've taken it (non-pg). Give your dr a call and see what he/she recommends.

Thanks a million girls! Julie, you are the QUEEN of searches! I looked and looked on the web and found nothing helpful! Thanks!!

I go to the OB tomorrow. I will talk to her about all this then. In the meantime, I am going to go with the benedryl for now. The sudafed and tylenol sinus I was given the OK to take just is not working. LOOOVE the vaseline idea, but I tried it when my nose was just dry and it was great. NOW I have a nose full of cold sores. Plus under my nose. REALLY attractive, let me tell ya! YUCK!!!!!! Does anyone else get cold sores under their nose when they get a cold and have to blow so much? I must be an oddball! lol I took Abbie to gymnastics tonight...YES on bedrest, bad girl, I know!! I was so embaressed. I just knew everyone was focused on my nose! lol Like there was nothing better to look at, huh?

In the meantime though, I dont think I have ever had a sinus infection this bad before! I woke up this morning at 1 am feeling like someone literally struck me with a ball bat in the left cheekbone! And my DH tells me I was crabby this morning! LOL Wonder why?

Again, thanks for the replys! I thought I seen SOMEWHERE where coricidin was safe in pregnancy. When I dont need it anymore, I will remember where I seen that, I am sure!

The info I found is that hte medication contains a small about of blood thinner in it.

Also, sudafed shouldn't be taken with HBP because it has a decongestant in it. In fact, with BP problems you shouldn't take anything that has decongestant because a decongestants can further raise your BP (so like claritin D, sudafed, etc..) One of the first things my docs did when my BP rose in my first pregnancy was take me off claritin D.

I can imagine that a sinus infection while pg is awful! Sure sounds like it is. Sinuses tend to swell naturally in pregnancy and that, I'm sure only makes matters worse.

Hopefully you can get a med that works well without too much added risk. I had a sinus infection that seemed to never go away right before getting married. Great fun! [:p]

How is the "bed rest" going? LOL Gymnastics sounds fun to me...wish I'd have tried it when I was young, skinnier, and limber! And no, I've never had a cold sore anywhere near my nose. Though, I do have one of those corner of the mouth ones right now. LOL

I am serious though, I thought I have had a sinus infection a hundred times before! NOTHING like this one! WOW, I sure dont want another one!

When I went for my OB appt today. She made a comment about my "herpes" lol She said to be careful when touching the baby because it can cause the same problems in newborns that genital herpes can! UMMMMMMMMM..........My first comment was "well, I sure hope its gone by the time this baby gets here!!!" How embaressing! I get them on my nose about twice a year. Always after having a runny nose and blowing so much. YUCK!
