11 days much of a difference???

Hey, if my dates (due date) might be off by about 11 days, is that enough of a difference to warrant a u/s to check or no? I'll be with a new doctor and am not sure if I should push for one or not. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm going to call tomorrow to set up my first OB apt.

Thanks in advance!

Catherine,
I already set my first appontment for the 15th of this month! I am excited. In past pregnancies I have had early u/s - at 8 and 9 weeks because of my loss. They always like to check things out with my babies all along. I don't think it is unreasonable to ask or even strongly ask LOL!!! Let me know how it goes!

I am starving too... no yucky feelings yet [:)] Just tired.
Hugs,
Suzanna

Congrats on getting pregnant! [:D]

The due dates are extremely important later in the pregnancy to see if the baby is developed right or not and for measuring the MSAFP (which screens for spina bifida and Down syndrome among others). You need to know the real due date. In the second and third trimesters, they can't date the babies properly because there are differences in their size, but in the beginning they are all about the same size.

I'd ask them to do the U/S and then take the U/S report with you anytime you go for another one.

Thanks ladies! I will call soon. Well, when I get offline! lol I'm really hoping I like my new OB...I have dealt with her before but never as a patient and she has a great personality, hopefully we agree on treatment, etc.

Thankyou again!

Hey Catherine!
I have always had u/s's early on. Like 8 weeks. This is the best time to estimate a due date and get it right. (From what I have been told.) By the time they do your 20 weeker u/s the baby can be too big or too small for size depending on the growth, causing an inaccurate due date. My OB's have always done an early one and then when the baby measures bigger (In Will's case 2 weeks larger!!) they can look back and know that they got one early on and go by the earlier one. Make sense? LOL I think I was rambling there!

Sherry, it makes perfect sense...I just never know how the doctor(s) are going to respond to my history.

Luckily, so far they seem to be taking it seriously and I haven't even seen them yet! I called this am to make an apt, and let the receptionist know, casually, that I had a high risk pg last time and also that I was unsure of my dates. She scheduled an apt with the nurse midwife and said that "hopefully" the dr could do a U/s at the end to check dates...then she asked what made me high risk. I told her and she immediately changed my apt to meet strictly with the OB. Then, about 45 minutes later the nurse midwife calls to ask more specific info about my last pg, if I had any questions/concerns, if this pg was planned, and if I was having any trouble yet! YAY! I really hope they live up to my now high expectations!

Oh, so my first OB apt is the 23rd of December when I'll be about 8 wks by lmp...just in time for Christmas! YAY!

Medical books say that all babies grow at the same rate for the first 13 weeks and then grow at their own rate. Thus dating done accurately in the first 13 weeks is the most accurate dating. But if they screw up the measuring it can be off by quite a bit. For example in my second pregnancy the doc messed the measurements up the first time and got like 9 weeks instead of 10 1/2. She remeasured it again because she knew it was so far off and got 10 weeks 2 days which was close enough to confirm using my LMP.

I guess that would be an issue. With my last two and now this one I have measured only ONE day from my LMP....Guess they are doing something right. But, hey you cant help but beg for the due date to be changed when you have a big baby and he measures 2 weeks ahead. Will was 7.12 (2 weeks early!) He measured 2 weeks ahead all the time after my 20 week U/S. Every U/S I had, someone commented on his HUGE cheeks. Oh, yes and his big belly and long legs! It does not help that daddy is 6'5 and 280#'s. Did I mention he was 11lbs at birth!!! UGHH! And here I get pregnant AGAIN...I think I am a glutton for punishment! LOL
