Pennies at the cemetery

I'm not sure if this is the right area to post, but I have a question. We were at the cemetery on Saturday visiting Erik's grave and noticed pennies on a lot of the other babies' graves. I've never seen this before and was wondering if anyone know the significance. We put some on Erik's marker, so he wouldn't feel left out![;)]

I've never heard of that??? Sounds like the ending to some cute story that would get forwarded around the internet. Let us know if you find out!

ps. I asked someone and they say they think it is a jewish tradition???

I have seen this also but never gave it much thought as it was on older gravestones..... If you learn the meaning please pass it along I would love to know what it means...

I had read a story in one of those "chicken soup for the soul" books that mentioned something like that.... I did a search and found this mention.

I was talking to a friend at work, and she said something about when you find a penny, it means someone in heaven is thinking of you. I've heard that too, now that she brought it up, so I was wondering if it was that, or a pennies from heaven thing. Either way I thought it was a cute thing. I would say 80% of the graves in the baby section had pennies on them. I didn't look at the other part of the cemetery.
