oligohydramniosis...low amniotic fluid that was caused by the raise in blood pressure. When I was diagnosed with pih and sent in for the baseline ultrasound my amniotic fluid level had dropped by more than half in 10 weeks...and that with fluctuating bps, not even 150/100's at that point. They thought I would have to deliver my daughter at 29 weeks pg, but luckily the bedrest and increased fluid intake worked. The lower amniotic fluid level is an indicator of the placenta not functioning properly and since the amniotic fluid is mostly made of urine from the baby, it also means the baby is probably not getting the nutrients it needs. Luckily we caught ours early enough that it seems to have had no ill effects.
