Melissa -

I can't imagine what it would be like to be told at 30 years old that I could never have a biological child. Please get as many opinions as necessary and do not give up hope. I am praying that you and your husband wishes come true!

I'm sorry for the bad news from that doc - I would definately get a second opinion. Good Luck with this next cycle. I will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you for your replies and the stories. Those are what are getting me through this right now. Doctors throw out percentages all the time and people beat those odds all the time. I am going to move forward with treatment and deal with all the "what-ifs" once we know something for sure. All of those "what-ifs" have been running through my mind since we talked to the RE, though. It's just life-altering. I can't imagine my life without children. Having a family is what we have been working toward for a long time and it's difficult to imagine either being childless or adopting. Those are just things I have never in my life thought would be my options. I guess no one does until it happens to them.
The good thing is that I have my family's support for anything I want to do, whether it's IVF or what. I am very lucky in that sense and it at least takes away some of the stress I had been feeling about the cost of this medication. I spent $800 on this last cycle that didn't work and will be spending around $2,000 for my next cycle, since they are stepping up the dosage.
Maybe I'm in denial, but I just can't believe that there is absolutely NOTHING that can be done for me to have a baby, since I'm only 30, for God's sake.

Melissa, don't give up hope. I was told over 10yrs ago I was unlikely to conceive naturally. Both of my pregnancies were natural conceptions

I am so sorry, I know that kind of news is devastating. I want to add another story - in my RE's office they have a patient counselor, just someone to talk to, cry with, vent to, etc. She went through infertility herself and her story was similar to yours. She was in her early 30s and was told that her eggs were equivalent to a woman in her late 40s and she should consider using doner eggs. Determined to give it a try, they were able to successfully do IVF with her eggs and now have a healty 18 month old. They are trying for #2 in January with the embryos they froze. Don't give up hope yet. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers that hopefully this next cycle will be a success and you wont even need that second opinion.

Best of luck to you,

I'm sorry, Melissa. I hope your next cycle proves her wrong, and I agree that a second opinion is a great idea.

Hi Melissa,

I'm so sorry. Saying that these are things that you didn't want to hear is totally an understatement. I am on board with your OB and Julie in getting the second opinion, with an RE that will go with you through h*ll and high water to help you achieve your dream and not stop any venues prematurely. Reproductive endocrinologists can have differing opinions.

For what it's worth, one RE told me after egg retrieval that my eggs looked "old" (like those of a 50+ year old woman, I was 33 at the time) and that we would have to explore another aspect of infertility that they hadn't looked at before~pretty much giving up hope before they even performed the IVF. The procedure went forward anyway because the embryologist and another RE saw it differently and didn't want to give up. Two of those "eggs that looked old" fertlized with my husband's sperm and are now happy, healthy 2 1/2 year olds.

Please don't give up hope yet. It's so much more easier said than done, I know, but please hang in there.

We'll be keeping you in our prayers,

Oh Melissa,

I am so sorry.

I absolutely agree with your OB on the 2nd opinion. I pray though, that you are pregnant before you ever even need to go there.

I will keep you in my prayers,
