Does anyone know if rapid weight loss in a man can fool with his fertility? I ask bc my DH had gastric bypass over a year ago and has lost over 200 lbs...... We have been trying for several months with no luck.....just wondering if this weight loss could have affected his sperm count......let me know

I really don't know the answer to this one. I know that in women, weight and sudden gain/loss can change ovulation habits but, I've never heard that for men and sperm production.

I looked it up in TCOYF and didn't find anything about weight and sperm count either. If you have the book, pg 170-176 address issues which may cause low sperm count. (tobacco, steriods, ulcer meds, jacuzzis, etc.)

I hope someone will have the answer for you!

As far as I know weight loss in men does not effect sperm counts. On the market are sperm kits (sold at walgreens,cvs etc) you can get for about 30.00. Also there are many vitiams a man can take to increase sperm counts.

Don't know about the rapid weight loss, sorry. But I know that gaining too much weight and being out of shape was not considered a plus when my husband and I were trying to conceive the "fun" way before we ended up doing IVF.

i haven't found any info on it either so i am taking that as a good sign! i believe we are good to go........hopefully we will see soon!

It's definitely worth getting a sperm count after several months of trying, weight loss or no, just to rule it out. It's far easier and cheaper than any of the tests and treatments women go through. I've never read anything that mentions a man's weight (or weight loss) as a factor either, but the number of men in this exact situation probably is too small to show up in the literature.
