Had an Appointment Yesterday...

Well I had an OB check yesterday. The good news is that my blood pressure was 134/70! That is really awesome for me. I was actually shocked at how wonderful it was... but I am certainly NOT complaining! Then my OB checked for the heartbeat with the doppler. She tried for quite a long time, but we were unable to hear the heartbeat. I am just 11 weeks, so it can be typical to not be able to hear yet. BUT my last two pregnancies we were able to hear with the doppler at 10 weeks. Of course I am having a really hard time because that was how we first knew Chloe had died. My Ob didn't seem to be reassuring at all. She said "see you in 4 weeks!" 4 WEEKS!!?? I'm going to be an emotional wreck by then. I know I should call and maybe make another appointment in the mean time, but I feel silly doing that. It is just hard because this is a new/different provider than I have had with my last two pregnancies. We are still getting to know each other. I guess I need to tell her how anxious and crazy I can get if not reassured. As you all know - when you go through trying experiences it changes you.
Do you think I should change my provider? Suggestions please!

You should call back and ask to be seen sooner--explain (remind them?) that you lost your last baby at this time and since the doctor was unable to hear a heartbeat you want to come in every week until the can tell you what is going on. I don't know if it is premature to ask for an ultrasound but I think if it were me--I would. I am surprised they did not want to see you sooner--perhaps the doctor was unaware of your loss. You sometimes have to remind them...

Take care--I am thinking of you and eager to know what is going on.

I rented a doppler from a company, I think it was Stork Radio. I don't think it was very expensive, and I kept it for maybe 4 months. It was kind of reassuring whenever I didn't feel much movement, and my daughter really loved listening to her brother's heartbeat and my food digesting.

Hi Suz,
I agree with Anne and I would call back. There is no reason why you should have to wait around worrying for 4 weeks. You can absolutely request an u/s to make sure all is good. keeping you in my prayers sweetie and let us know how you are doing.....

Suzanna,

I am very surprised that when she could not find a heartbeat that she did not order an ultra sound. I lost my first preg at 11 wks. The ultra sound was how they confirmed the impending mc. Like Anne, I also think you should call the doc back and ask about doing an ultra sound. Hang in there sweetie!

Suzanne -

I would DEFINITELY call and request an US. Both times I was pg, the dr couldn't hear the HB with the doppler (I'm thinking it had something to do with my weight [:I]) I'd have to have one at every visit when she couldn't hear it, starting at about 10 weeks. Good luck and keep us posted!

We rented a fetal doppler for $30 a month from a wonderful company called Baby Beat.

Good Luck and let us know what happens!

Suzanna,

I agree, I'd call back and ask for an u/s. I'm surprised that she didn't do that right then. At my 12 week appt my dr. couldn't find the heartbeat and we did an u/s immediately. (Fortunately for me she had one in her office) I could barely wait the 10 minutes it took to change rooms and get prepped let alone four weeks.

Please let us know what happens.
Keeping you and baby in my prayers,

I agree with the other posts, I would really want to have an US! I am sure everything is fine, but for your own peace of mind and to not spend 4 worried weeks, it would really help! With both my sons, they couldn't hear a heartbeat at 11 weeks. They did an office US with a very old fashioned machine, and could see one with my first son. With my second son, they couldn't see one either, but could see him moving around! I still felt worried, but they had me come back in just 3 days and then we saw one. I would have gone crazy waiting 4 weeks.

Good news about your BP!!

I agree! You should be seen as often as you think necessary. This is a new provider, so I'd give them a chance. Let them know how you feel, and see how they respond. Congratulations on your bp!

(Sherry, thanks for the Baby Beat link. What a cool idea!)
