Grams of protein in your urine?

I just got back my results from my 24 hr urine collection. It says I have 6.3 grams of protein in my urine. Does that mean anything?? My clinic won't give me a call back and they won't schedule me another appointment sooner than my next one. I'm 35 weeks pregnant & worried. Can you help me?

I'd go directly to L&D. This protein is enough to diagnose severe preeclampsia.

I can't believe that they won't call you back. Do you know if a doctor saw that?

Wow...I agree with Ileana whole-heartedly. I am not a doctor, but if I were you I would definately be visiting L&D and calling my doctor as I went. Ileana has given you the only info that is really pertinent at this point. Severe disease would require close and careful monitoring by a doctor, and given your gestation, may possibly be sufficient reason for delivery.

I agree with Catherine and Ileana. Go directly to L&D. By the way, how did you get your results back? Did the lab give it to you, nurse, or dr?

Just wanted to echo the others here. I would also be seeking treatment immediately.

A diagnosis of preeclampsia requires 300mg of protein in a 24 hour sample (along with the bp requirement). You're spilling over 6000 miligrams.

Please do let us know how you are doing.

Did you see or speak to a doctor? I hope all is well.

Can you give us a little background on yourself and your condition? Do you have any underlying conditions that might cause this, such as kidney disease? Have you been tested for proteinuria previously in this pregnancy and what were the results? How soon does your doctor plan to see you again? Is this your first pregnancy? If not, did you have complications in your first?

There truly are alot of factors that can play into whether your 6 grams of protein is an emergency-type situation or not. I hope all is well. Please update us when you can,

I'm also hoping that you've had a chance to discuss this with your doc. Please update us when you get a chance.

Sending best wishes....
