successful MTHFR pregnancy w/o heparin/lovenox?

Hello all

I do have the MTHFR mutation, I am currently about 7.5 weeks pregnant. I am taking a high dose of folic acid for the mutation, and a baby asprin. I guess I am concerned that I am not taking the heparin or lovenox injections as of yet. I do have an apt. next week and can bring up the subject. Will just the baby asprin be enough for a blood thinner?

Thank you for any information.

I do not have MTHFR but I do have factor five leiden and I was also concerned about not taking the lovenox shots. I took 5 mg of folic acid, baby aspirin, calcium and towards the end they put me on iron because my levels were low, but I am happy to report I have a happy and healthy 11 week old son. They did keep me under the microscope though from 20 weeks on!!

Melissa, I declined the lovenox and am also doing LDA and 4mg folic acid. It is probably coincidence, but my last growth ultrasound found that the little guy had jumped from 50% percentile growth to 75% percentile growth in the interval where I started the high dose folic acid.
This pregnancy with the LDA and folic acid has been the least complicated I've had so far, and I can't say that it'll be like that for everyone, but it sure seems like it has made a difference to me. Good luck!

ETA: I was shown to have homozygous MTHFR [:)]

I don't have any underlying disorders and I am taking 2 shots of Lovenox a day! I would ask your dr. at your next appt. I didn't not start my shots till I was about 7 1/2-8 weeks along!

My neighbor also has MTHFR as well as a history of pulmonary embolism. She declined the lovenox, but took the aspirin and folic acid, and went on to deliver a healthy boy at 39w6d. Yes, healthy pregnancies do in fact happen, despite all of the horror stories people may tell you.

I didn't know I was homozygous MTHFR C677T until 14 weeks, and I started my shots then. For me, my personal medical history was the deciding factor. I'll do anything not to get that sick again. Even if it only happens to be placebo effect, I'll take it!

I also have homozygous MTHFR, and none of my drs consider heparin necessary or worth the risk. Even LDA is purely optional, they tell me. Have they checked your homocysteine level? As long as it's normal and stays normal, you shouldn't need anything else, and if it's high, more folic acid is the solution.

I'm a hetero MTHFR gal, and was on baby aspirin and increased folic acid during my second pg. Developed PIH around 32 weeks and was able to make it to 37 weeks before being induced. The second half of the pregnancy, the OB was closely monitoring my health and baby's.

Thank you for all of the information.

I have an apt. next Tuesday to discuss the pregnancy plan, I am not opposed to the heparin or lovenox, but if I could avoid it and have a good outcome I will do it. Then again if my chances will be better taking it I will for sure do it!

It is good to know that you all did have good pregnancy outcomes without, one less thing to think about during the day!

I just had my second ultrasound today...7.6 weeks, heartbeat and all, I feel so much better seeing the little fluttering heart!
