Cloudy Urine- Increased Protein?

Postby abell » Mon Apr 12, 2004 10:41 am

Hey there-

Has anyone experienced that when their protein level increased that their urine became cloudy? I was just wondering if anyone else knew if this happened?

Thanks-

Amanda, I wondered about this, too! I never found any link between proteinuria and cloudy urine, though. Have you had any symptoms of urinary tract infection?

But UTI also causes some protein spilling... is it cloudy because of the protein or because of the UTI?

I can swear I have cloudy urine every now and then, and I do have protein, but I did not have a UTI in years. When I tell doctors about the cloudy urine, they suspect a UTI, they make a culture, nothing comes out, so they are happy... ok, but what about my cloudy urine [}:)]?

Ileana, sorry to be gross buuuut- the cloudy urine in a UTI comes from.... PUS. ugh.

It can be normal to have cloudy urine, something about salts.. yadda, yadda, yadda (I say that because I don't understand the process[;)]) That link should say something about it...

I've been spilling protein for awhile (2-4+) and some days I notice it's cloudy and other days it's really clear. An infection will cause it to be cloudy too. As long as it's not brown in color, I wouldn't worry (unless you think you might have an infection). Make sure you are drinking enough.

Yeah I don't have any symptoms of UTI.

My protein has been sitting at a trace- but I have noticed that it changes every time I test- so should I just test it 1 time a day and the same time everyday?

Any suggestions?

I have been told by doctors that many times (and it seems to be common in pregnancy) that you can have a UTI and have no symptomns.

Dr is concerned with my headaches, swelling, and seeing spots- they are going to order lab today.

I will let you know how it goes.
