Max Labetalol Dosage

Hi All! Just curious to know if anyone was familiar with what the maximum dosage for labetalol is? I was on 100mg twice a day, they raised it to 200mg twice a day, and now, 200mg three times a day. My doctor said they had a lot of room to go and that the maximum is 2400mg a day. I already feel crappy on this dose, and cannot imagine how I would feel at that high of a dose. I am only 25 weeks right now, and I know I have a long way to go. Thanks!

I was on 600mg 3 times a day after I had my son. I delivered at 27 weeks. My pharmacy actually called the dr. to check with him to see if it was right. Just try to hang in there your baby needs every minute it can get. Good luck.

And remember, there are other safe BP meds for pregnancy. If the side effects don't wear off with the new dosage within a week or so, ask if there are other meds you can try. They can also mix meds, so a certain dosage of one med AND a certain dosage of another med...things like that. Hope you start feeling better.

I absolutely refused to take the labetolol this time (with my last pregancy I suffered through it being constantly wired and a feeling of bugs crawling through my head). This time I was on a combo of procardia and aldomet they make you tired but for me much better than the labetolol.

If you feel crappy on labetalol let your Dr. know ASAP!! I took labetalol through my entire pregnancy & for 6 months PP on ever increasing doses. PP I was very tired & had asthma like symptoms & my Dr. put me on a combination of 4 different asthma meds over a period of 3 months. I tried to pass off the fatigue and feeling crappy to having a new baby and 2 other pre-schoolers. But I knew I felt awful.

When I started not just feeling fatigued but weak, my BP's were getting more out of control & my "asthma" was worse and not better my Dr realized I was having a reaction to Beta Blockers. I am now off labetalol & procardia completely. After a week I wasn't even taking my asthma meds any more and haven't needed then at all since. But my cardiologis said I have RAD to be sure not to ever take beta blockers again.

Thanks for the responses! I was on methyldopa in the beginning of the pregnancy, and they switched me to labetalol toward the end of the first trimester because my blood pressure was creeping up. The dr said that he typically sees bp respond better to labetalol than to methyldopa. I was put on labetalol in the second trimester with my first pregnancy. I think the most I ever took during that pregnancy was 200 mg three times a day, and that was toward the end before they induced me at 35 weeks. I am glad to know that, from the experience of others, I do seem to have a lot of room to work with as far as the dosage goes. Thanks again ladies!!
