Cate is 6 mos old and I am STILL having a problem with loose joints. I just dislocated my elbow AGAIN for the second time in 3 weeks. Will go back to the doc tomorrow and have her put it back into place again. No advice here.

It has been 14 weeks since the birth of my son and I experiencing joint pain in my arms. I am also still swollen and cannot wear my wedding ring as well. I immediately lost all of my water weight from pregnancy after the delivery due to prescribed Lasix. I lost almost 35 pounds in 2 weeks. However, I started retaining water again. I located this website as I was trying to find out if others were experiencing the same. I am going to call this week to schedule an appt with my OB. Please let me know if you find out anything :)

I have a pain in my left wrist that won't go away. Had it since 29 weeks of pg. My children are now 5 and 1/2 months old. Hope we can get some answers here.

I am sorry you are still having so much pain! My pregnancy/PE swelling went away within the first few weeks, although I've continued to get swollen hands/feet and retain water with monthly hormonal changes (never happened before pregnancy). Hopefully your doctor can help you find out what might be going on with the swelling. I also continued to have severe hand/wrist pain (carpal tunnel, then tendinitis) for several months, and ended up on medication, not being allowed to lift my son for two weeks to heal, seeing a hand specialist/orthopedic doctor & getting a steroid shot in one wrist. The shot helped me a lot ("resting" your joints isn't really an option with a newborn!). I was advised it was probably OK to continue breastfeeding after the shot, but just in case I expressed & did exclusively formula + previously expressed milk for several days.

I also had knee pain every time I kneeled or put any pressure on my knees, and my GP said it was bursitis from the pregancy weight & PE swelling. He had me take a lot of advil (I'm sorry, I can't remember how many/often/long), and it did go away like he said it would. I can't remember what I did about BF during that period, I think I may have expressed & did formula again. During the wrist/knee situations, I was worried about arthritis (my mom developed after pregnancy with my sister & weight gain afterward), but I tested negative and mostly recovered from all the pain within a year.

The bump from my spinal continued to be sensitive for a few months afterward (and the bump stayed there even longer), and my OB said it was normal. I don't remember it being as painful as my C-section scar, though -- I hope you can get some answers on that one too.

I feel like that when I am exhausted, and with all that is on your plate, you must be beyond exhausted! I hope you have some help. You need to take care of yourself and heal. My spinal location was tender for almost a year after my last c section; not painful, but tender. Take care.

Welcome to the forums, and congrats on the birth of your son.

I'm sorry you are still having a rough time health-wise. Unfortunately for some women it can take longer for the damage done by preeclampsia/HELLP to heal.

I've heard that some women have problems with their joints pregnancy and even postpartum due to pregnancy hormones loosening up ligaments. I know when I had some ligament/joint issues during pregnancy seeing a chiropractor helped. A physical therapist could probably help with those type of issues as well.

Hopefully your GP will be able to help rule out other causes of joint pain, including auto-immune disorders. Let us know how your appointment goes!

joint pain still 12 weeks after birth

Postby mom2five » Tue Jun 16, 2009 12:26 am

I had my fifth child at 31 weeks after a severe preeclampsia and HELLP. I had a emergency C-Section and my son spent 2 months in the NICU and is home and is doing well. He is almost 9 pounds (at birth 2.11 pounds) First pregnancy with sickness throughout, down syndome scare, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, hellp, first C-section and first preemie. So this last pregnancy had everything.

My questions is it is 12 weeks later and all my joints, my fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees (sometimes the sides of my neck) are either in pain or at the least discomfort. My range of motion is limited. I feel short of breath when doing grocery shopping (which is better than before, taking a 2 min shower was quite a feat).

Any suggestions, my ob was not worried, but now since its past 8 weeks after birth she can't treat me and I have to go to my general. I have an appt tomorrow but was hoping someone out there would know something.

My fingers are still swollen enough to the point I can't wear my wedding ring, it can't be extra weight since I'm 10# lighter than I was before I got pregnant.

Also the place where my spinal went in is still sensitive as is my lower ab area. I'm just a mess and it gets depressing feeling like this 24/7 while trying to work and also take care of a newborn along with 4 other kids.
