on January 1st, 2013 at 2 am I woke up with what felt like unbearable heartburn. So I took some tums and tried to go back to bed, but after an hour it was still there. So I woke up my fiance and told him I need to go to the hospital. When I got there, they put me in a room and took my blood pressure. I had already been getting some high blood pressure results from the doctor and was already on blood pressure medication.
My blood pressure that morning was 200/130, so they had me lay down and they checked it every 20 minutes. They then took my blood and found I had high liver enzymes and checked my urine, which had high amounts of protein in it. So after 3 hours, they gave me some pills to help my blood pressure and I got hooked up to magnesium through an iv.
They then told me O would have to be transferred to another hospital 2 hrs away via ambulance. I was scared and my fiance and I were both crying. I was only 29 weeks. They told me I didn't have heartburn: my liver was swollen and it hurt so badly that I was throwing up. The pills finally kicked in and the pain was gone. We made it to the other hospital by 8 am. I was admitted to labor and delivery, where I was closely monitored for the next 3 days. Then on the 4th, I went for an ultrasound and he wasn't really moving. He already wasn't getting enough nutrients because of the high blood pressure so the doctor came in and told me "remember when I said it could be sooner than later" and I just started crying.
He was so early and predicted to be only 2lbs and to top that off my fiance was about 20 minutes away on his way back up. So they wheeled me back to my bed then to the OR and put the numbing stuff in me and cut me open and took out a handsome 2 lb 4oz 29 week baby boy on Jan 4, 2013 at 1:17pm. My fiance made it in time to take him back to the NICU. He is now 20 days old. He was only on oxygen for 3 days and ever since hes been breathing on his own. He still has a feeding tube in but that'll be in until he learns how to suck, swallow, and breath all at once, which is another 4-6 weeks. He also has to learn to regulate his own temperature and get out of his isolate and into a crib. We will probably be here until the beginning of March, but I am very glad I have him. He is definitely a little trooper: today he weighs 2lbs 11 1/2 oz.Â
My story begins the Saturday morning my phone went off saying today I was 30 weeks. I was so... Read More
