Hi, I delivered a boy last year August. I had a great absolutely normal, full-term pregnancy with not a single incidence of high BP or swelling. However, I started bleeding the day I completed 9 months. Got admitted, BP normal, BPP, NST normal. Since labour did not progress for nearly 12 hours, I was induced after which I started leaking and BP increased to 150/100. My OB decided for a C section and BP was back to normal during and after delivery. I ws discharged after 3 days.Â
3 days later I started feeling weak and heaviness in head, pain in eyes, swelling in left foot. Checked BP... 180/110... Was rushed to the hospital: ECG was normal. The next 3 days was under observation... Docs got all possible blood, ultrasounds, tests done - Kidney, liver, protein, auto immune, cardio, eyes... everything normal! But BP kept shooting up... now 220/130.
Finally was started on meds... BP started coming down after 2 days and was discharged.
Medication was gradually reduced after a month... Have been on very low dose (half of 25mg beta blocker) since. Also take a raw garlic clove every morning with water, but the incidence has emotionally affected me. I have developed 'BP fear' and panic on even hearing the word. Occasionally, I have these anxiety spells and BP spikes up marginally. Docs trying to convince me it was because of pregnancy, but I am so scared!!
Have been looking for answers... why did this happen to me? everything was so perfect earlier. We realized that my mom also had severe preeclampsia in her first pregnancy (her first didn't survive). Then I was born, and some years later my sister. For both me and my sister, she was on bed rest and without salt. She was off meds soon after giving birth. She says one of her paternal aunt had died in labour (she doesn't know why). Her mom or sisters did not have this.
Does anyone know what is the reason? Could this be hereditary? I have a family history of hypertension (both sides)... How does one deal with it? And what if it happened again??
