My daughter was born sleeping at 32w 5d 11-16-12. I almost passed away as well 11-20-12; the day of Elyssa's funeral due to undiagnosed preeclampsia and chronic hypertension. Â My BP was almost 200/90 and I had mental confusion and memory loss. I did not even remember my husband or that I just had a baby at all. I was hospitalized for 4 days and luckily regained some of my memory and was able to be discharged and survived. I am very fortunate to be alive today.
On 11-6-12 I went to a Dr visit and my BP was 150/100 and I had to do another 24 hour urine. I had done one in Oct but it was under 500mg so they said it was still low. I was placed on BP meds 10-8-12 before being discharged from .hospital for high BP in  but only 400 mg. When i was in hospital after she passed i was put on 1200 mg of BP Meds.
I was told that I did not have preeclampsia on November 9 when my doctor called me on my cell around 8 pm and told me that I did not have preeclampsia when in fact she was WRONG and caused me to lose my sweet Elyssa! 11-14-12 at a NST and reg apt they could not find her heartbeat. The Dr I was seeing at my appt said that he noticed that there was something off about my 24 hour urine. I was told there was not enough protein in the 24 hour urine to have preeclampsia but that STUPID Dr read the results wrong. On 11-16-12 after 37 hours of labor I gave birth to my sleeping Angel at 4:01 am. She weighed only 2lbs 6oz. She had a growth restriction. This could have been prevented! This makes me want to SCREAM!
I paid for my medical records and received them about 6 months ago. My healthcare system updated and I can now print my own lab results and this was NOT listed in my medical records or lab results in the Medical records that I received. I have finally found the missing piece of the puzzle that they were hiding from me.
My blood pressure started being high first of October 2012. I was hospitalized on Oct 7-8 with my blood pressure almost 190/90 and discharged with BP at 140-150/90. I should have not been discharged until it lowered.Â
This was in my medical records:
Urine Chemistry Ordered  (10/15/2012 11:21 AM CDT)
Urine Total Volume 3200 mLÂ
Protein, 24 Hr Urine 480 mg/24hr 0 - 100 (This is considered Normal range)
This was NOT in my medical records:
Urine Chemistry Ordered  (11/07/2012 1:59 PM CST)
Urine Total Volume 3800 mLÂ
Protein, 24 Hr Urine 1482 mg/24hr 0 - 100 (This is 3 TIMES the NORMAL RANGE)
Diagnosing preeclampsia may be accomplished by noting painless swelling of the arms, legs, and/or face, in addition to abnormal weight gain. The patient's blood pressure is taken during every doctor's visit during pregnancy. An increase of 30 mm Hg in the systolic pressure, or 15 mm Hg in the diastolic pressure, or a blood pressure reading greater than 140/90 mm Hg is considered indicative of preeclampsia. A simple laboratory test in the doctor's office can indicate the presence of protein in a urine sample (a dipstick test). A more exact measurement of the amount of protein in the urine can be obtained by collecting urine for 24 hours, and then testing it in a laboratory to determine the actual quantity of protein present. A 24-hour urine specimen containing more than 500 mg of protein is considered indicative of preeclampsia. Reference:Â http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Preeclampsia+and+Eclampsia
