I am 42 years old and have a 18 year old, 15 year old and a 6 month old. It never occurred to me that I could be pregnant at my age. My oldest was getting ready to graduate from High School and this just could not be. I thought that I was beginning Menopause. There was no morning sickness, I had not really gained very much wait, and as it was my periods had become less & less. Well needless to say it was not Menopause. I began having some swelling in my hands, feet and face. I had never had high BP but thought I would check it just to see what it was. Well it was extremely high, probably in the range of 190/120 give or take. This went on for a couple of weeks. After doing some research and reading on the internet I discovered Preeclampsia and realized that this is what must be going on. I decided with a very determined 15 year old daughter that I needed to go to the hospital and get checked out. After arriving and them doing the normal vitals etc... I did not understand why what the big fuss was when taking my blood pressure. I was immediately admitted and had everyone jumping to try and get my BP lowered. There was also a big concern because had not had any prenatal care, and was close to 29 weeks into the pregnancy. So after the initial shock of being pregnant was over I then was trying to absorb the fact that the baby would most likely be delivered with in a few days. There was concern that if they did not deliver the baby soon there was a big chance one of us would not make it. After several days of medication, sonograms, and test, I was put on dialysis because they were afraid my kidneys were shutting down. My lungs began filling up with fluid and I was having a difficult time breathing. It was at this time the decision was made to do a emergency C-Section. Jayden was born weighing inly 3 lbs 4 oz. He was healthy and doing fine, just a little on the small side. He stayed in NICU for 1 month. I was released a few days after the delivery. Jayden is now 6 months old and weighs 14 lbs. We call him our little Humpty Dumpty. He is a true gift from GOD. We count our blessings everyday for allowing our story to have a happy ending. Mom and baby are both doing great and have no problems from the effects of preeclampsia. I had never even heard of this before experiencing it first hand. We had alot of Guardian Angels watching over us. Jayden was delivered at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft.Worth TX. They took such wonderful care of both of us. The doctors and nurses saved our lives and the NICU unit is excellent. I truly believe that if we had gone somewhere else our outcome may not have been the same. Jayden was a big surprise but we could not imagine life without him. He is such a little miracle. He is the boss around our house!
