I became pregnant a few months before my thirtieth birthday, and I had a pretty normal pregnancy until my fifth month when I began to swell horribly in my ankles. I went to the OB and had them check my blood pressure, but they felt that everything was normal and they suggested that I avoid salty food, put my feet up, and drink lots of water. At the beginning of my seventh month, I caught a bad cold and took cough medicine for it, but soon after taking it, my skin began to feel tight and my head hurt terribly. So, I went back to the OB and they suggested that I stay away from the cold medicine, and that I continue to put my feet up whenever I could because at that point my feet were so large that all I could wear was flip flops. I began to suspect, however, that I might have preeclampsia and I began to do research on the condition. A week after I visited the Preeclampsia Foundation
