I really don't know how to start this out. I had preeclampsia. I started showing a lot of signs around almost my fourth month of pregnancy. When I was 26 weeks pregnant I had my son. He weighed one pound and 5 ounces, 11 1/2 inches long, head 9 inches round. I had to be sent to Roanoke, VA. I was there for three days deathly ill, on the fourth day I was in excrutiating pain and I had an emergency c-section. I had him in February, he just came home not even two weeks ago June 20th. I ... I was about 27 weeks along with my first pregnancy when I started showing signs of preeclampsia. It started with a rapid weight gain of about 15 pounds in one week, due to the swelling. At the time, my doctors just told me that it was a normal part of pregnancy and not to worry. I knew my blood pressure had been elevated during a couple of appointments but it never occured to me that I could have preeclampsia. I found out later that there had been proteins in my urine as well. Three signs that I... Read more

In the spring of 2000, Lauren Larsens life took a dramatic shift, which put her on her current path as a national blood donation advocate and frequent keynote speaker. At the time, Lauren was a thirty-eight-year-old physically active nonsmoker who had completed six marathons. She had never experienced a medical emergencynot so much as a broken bone or minor surgery. She was also pregnant for her first time, and even her pregnancy was an easy oneno morning sickness, no disconcerting test ... Read more

I had a wonderful pregnancy. I was 36 and we were very happy. I never had any morning sickness. I had regular OB visits. My weight gain was in normal limits. I was doing great. I was going to have a natural birth without any drugs. On Thursday, June 21st, I visited my OB and everything was fine. On Saturday, I woke up with a severe headache. I thought I was having some sinus trouble. Around 4pm that day, I told my husband I was going to lay down. He must have had a premonition ... Read more

Hi. I had severe pre ecalmpsia along with HELLP Syndrome that caused me to deliver our baby boy at 27 weeks. I had been vomitting one night and called my husband to come home from work because I was getting sick. We called my OB/GYN and she said if it continued until the morning to bring me in but if the vomitting stopped then I didn't need to come in to the hospital. I felt fine the following day but again that night was getting sick. I called the office with pain between my ribs and w... Read more

March 2005 I delivered a beautiful baby girl 7lbs 1 1/2 oz. 4 days postpartum: I was feeling very anxious, had a horrible nursing experience that day and my BPs were elevating quickly. I really wasn't sure how high was high BP.. my BP went to 200/112 by midnight but I wasn't put on Magnesium Sulfate until 8am, which to this day I question. So many things could have happened; luckily God was in charge of my doctoring at that point. I was supposed to leave earlier that day.. had a C-section 3... Read more

10 months after my son is born I am able to write my story. After a year trying and many fertility treatments later, my husband and I were ecstatic to be pregnant. We were going to be the best parents and could not wait for the second to lay eyes on our precious son. I had a lot of morning sickness from about 8 weeks on and it never really stopped. I ended up taking zofron to curb the nasia. The pregnancy progressed normally until about 24 weeks. I kept waking up with swollen fingers and... Read more

I am a 32 year old mama with 5 children. I had pre-eclampsia with #'s 1 and 3 and pre-eclampsia and HELLP with #5. I have chronic hypertension and Grave's Disease. I am writing this about my 5th pregnancy. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I talked to my OB to switch my hypertension medication to a pregnancy-safe one. Unfortunately, while my blood pressure was fine, I developed hyperemisis gravidarum. I was miserably sick for the first 4 months and lost quite a bit of weight. Then,... Read more

This was my first pregnancy and not a planned one so both myself and my husband were over the moon. Everything was progressing smoothly until the 19th / 20th week after which I was diagonsed with having Urinary tract infection and then viral infection over a time frame of just 1-2 weeks Both of which according to my practioner did not pose any threat to the baby after carrying out ultrasound during each visit. However after recovering from the viral infection during a routine ultrasound ... Read more

Ryan Darren was born 6 weeks early because I went into the Hellp syndrome. The only cure for mothers is to deliver the baby is what I was told. My pregnancy went wonderful for the first 30 weeks. I was on blood pressure medication prior to and throughout my pregnancy, I am 32 years old. I had no problems with my BP going up until my 30th week. I had no swelling of any kind prior to my 30th week. In my 30th week I began feeling sharp and constant pains along my upper abdominal, rib cage are... Read more

I shared my story before, when my son was 10 months old. But so much has changed. When I shared before, my son was diagnosed with Sandifer's Syndrome... To give you the short version, I found out that I had pre-eclampsia on June 11th, 2001. On June 13, 2001 my son was born 4-7 weeks early. The doctor said 4 weeks, UCLA said 7 weeks. My son weighed 7 lb 1 oz and was the picture of perfect health. For 10 minutes. Then he went into respiratory failure. He was in the NICU for 9 days, diag... Read more

I was 32 weeks pregnant with my first child in August of 1997. I remember that I had swelling in my feet, but one of my doctors told me that every woman had some swelling. On August 4, 1997 I was awakend by terrible chest pain and uncontrollable vomiting. I called my doctor and went in for an immediate exam. They tested my urine and it had 4 + protein and my blood pressure was very high. I was sent to the hospital to be observed, but when my lab work came back, my doctor came in and informed ... Hello, I am the mother of 4 children. My last baby was certainly the hardest on my body and his. My mother had died May 17,1997 and on June 17th we found out a baby was on its way. A bit of a surprise but never the less loved. I craved CHEESE and I could not get enough of it. In my last 2 months of pregnancy. My first pregnancy started out wonderful. I was 24 years old and felt great. Around 29 weeks I started feeling kind of strange--nothing specific, just not quite right. I called my doctor's office and went in to be checked. My doctor was out of town and his partner didn't find it necessary to see me. The nurse weighed me and checked my blood pressure. It was slightly elevated, but she attributed this to my not feeling well. I was sent home with instructions to take it easy for the rest of t... Read more
