Hello, my name is Tonya and I was told all my life I wouldn't be able to have any children. Well to my surprise I got pregnant with my daughter Tianna Nicole. I was horribly sick during my pregnancy from about 14 weeks on. Everyone was telling me it was normal pregnancy symptoms but I felt like something was wrong. My mom went with me to one of my appointments and she noticed on the blood pressure machine that mine was high.Since about 14 weeks they (OB Clinic) was telling me I had protein i... Read more

On Jan 6, 2009 we found out we were pregnant after trying for approximately 8 months and we were overjoyed. My pregnancy was watched by my GP for the first 30 weeks until I had to go see an OB/GYN. I normally have lower blood pressure but through the pregnancy my blood pressure had gone up to more normal levels which didn't concern my GP but she was keeping an eye on it just in case. I met with the OB/GYN at 30 weeks and everything was normal, same with the 33 and 35 week check ups. My an... Read more

I was very blessed to have wonderful doctors throughout my pregnancy.  Everything seemed fine...morning sickness, a little swelling, but nothing out of the ordinary.  I did call the doctor's office one morning and got a doctor that was not mine...my lips were swollen...he said not to worry, so I didn't.A few weeks later, I went in for one of my first "every week" appointments...I guess I was about week 34 or 35...my last appointment had been 2 weeks earlier.  I f... I don't really know where to start my story. I knew I had preeclampsia

Posted On Friday, July 30, 2010  by

I don't really know where to start my story.  I knew I had preeclampsia but I had so much going on in my life that I didn't suspect or even think something could happen to me.  Lets start when I was 16 weeks pregnant.  I was traveling into the mountains, a snow storm hit so fast when I rounded the mountain, I lost control of my vehicle and hit a ten passenger van head on.  It was a very scary moment.  I remember hearing a pop.  I didn't have blood anywhere.  My... I was 24 weeks, 2 days, when out of nowhere I was being admitted to the hospital and rushed into surgery for a c-section because I had a BP of 251/175, and my baby girl, Sadie Quinn, was in distress.  My baby was delivered (via classic c-section) and survived only a few minutes, due to "severe preeclampsia/HELLP and low birth weight" (as printed on her death certificate).  She was only 365 grams, but truly the most beautiful and precious thing I had EVER laid my eyes on.  We held ... Hi. I'm new to this forum but I believe that the women here can understand what I'm about to write and any insight would be so appreciated. I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia when I was 25 weeks pregnant. I got hospitalized right away...my BP was 196/114. It was pandemonium to say the least. They straight out told me I was 24 hours away from having a stroke and dying. It was the scariest time of my life. They managed to bring down my BP and keep my baby in me until he had to be deliver... Read more

June 18, 1982: Sarah was conceived and I experienced a very normal pregnancy. I was 28 and this was my first pregnancy, so I was nutritionally and physically fit. Working out regularly and losing any extra weight before I conceived was a goal, so I began the pregnancy weighing 127 pounds, which is good for my petite 5'4" height. My mother had three normal deliveries and I read all the books available. Of course I skipped over the chapter on preeclampsia, since I just KNEW that would not ... Read more

I had a wonderful pregnancy, relatively complication free until I was diagnosed with preeclampsia at 37 weeks.  I was at my routine checkup, and expecting no problems to arise, just like all our past visits.  We were running a little late, so I was stressed at being late for the appointment.  Much to my surprise, our whole world was rocked in a matter of minutes.  At the visit, my blood pressure was pretty high and I also had protein in my urine.  I remember saying,... During my first pregnancy I was only 17 and trying to deal with  life. I lived in a maternity home for women needing help.  I got a lot of help learning what I would need after my baby boy was born but no one told me that I would be fighting for my life before he even got here! During my 7th month of pregnancy I keep telling my doctor that something was wrong. I didn't feel right! She would just tell me that this was my first pregnancy and that I didn't know how... Posted On Thursday, July 15, 2010  by

We were ecstatic to find out we were going to have a baby. The first time we saw him was on our one year wedding anniversary. He was about the size of a blueberry so we nicknamed him Blue. He was conceived on Christmas Day and we thought he was the ultimate Christmas present. My pregnancy was completely normal. Prior to pregnancy the only medical problem I had was Polycystic Ov... Posted On Thursday, July 15, 2010  by

I started having really bad back pain on Friday. It wasn't the normal back pain like I had had with my first pregnancy and it didn't feel like contractions. The pains were in the middle of my back and were constant. It felt as if they radiated threw my back into my chest and it was mainly at night.I had the worst time sleeping. I would take Tylenol which would only work for a short time and I switched positions so many times trying to get comfortable. I already had a doctor's appointment on ... Read more

My husband and I were married in June of 2002. I am a bit older than he so we decided to try for a child right away and much to our surprise we succeeded. My first pregnancy was miserable and things were complicated with gestational diabetes and such but no preeclampsia. Our baby boy Lucas is now 7 and wonderfully feisty. We conceived shortly after Lucas was born and I suffered a terrible labored miscarriage at 13 weeks with our second child. We really wanted a sibling for Lucas a... Read more

Hello, My name is Allison and I'm here to tell my preeclampsia story.  First, I want to thank the Preeclampsia Foundation for their awesome efforts to spread the word and educate about the dangers of preeclampsia.  I wish I would have found this particular site while I was going through the signs and symptoms.I was 28 years old, my first pregnancy, and aside from the normal morning sickness I felt great being pregnant.  I was enjoying every single moment. ... I usuallly am a great conversationalist.  For once I don't know exactly how to start so I'll ramble on my story to the best of my ability.  It has been 6 days.  Dark days since I felt an inch of light.  Last moment of light, holding my beautiful baby boy Caleb Montiel in my arms.  Though his breath was gone and his eyes were closed, I knew his spirit was still in this shell I carried.Caleb Montiel passed in my womb at 25 weeks.  I delivered my baby boy on Ju... Posted On Saturday, July 03, 2010  by

I had 3 different pregnancies all with preeclampsia. I had swelling of the feet, hands & face but never suffered from headaches. I was put in the hospital a week before my first childbirth due to high blood pressure. I had started throwing up and had broken blood vessels in my eyes. My first baby was born 8/30/89 by c-section. Healthy baby girl born with a heart murmur. My second childbirth I was told it was unlikely to have repeat preeclampsia but they would keep watch. Again, ... Read more

I found out I was pregnant in July 2009. My husband and I had just gotten married in June 2009 and were thrilled we got pregnant so fast. We had planned to start trying right away. At our first ultrasound we found out we had a single vessel umbilical cord. The doctors reassured us that lots of babies are born with a cord like this (1 in 100) and told us everything  would be okay. I researched it over and over again. I didn't like some of the things I read but overall our... Read more

Posted On Friday, June 25, 2010  by

In the sixth week of my pregnancy, my legs and feet became so swollen that it became too painful walk.  After a visit to the urgent care and relatively high BP (which they claimed was "nerves"), I consulted my OB about the problem.  That is when he took me in for my very first sonogram to show me that the baby was fine and simply said, "Every pregnancy is different...you need to wear more comfortable shoes."  Rest assured, the swelling went down as my pregnancy progressed. ...
