I was 14 years old and I had a cyst removed off my right overies. Due to this I was told that I was unable to have children. I was 21 years old, when I found out that I was expecting. I was shocked and happy at the same time. I found out when I was 14 weeks and 3 days along. In January 1996 I went to my doctor's appointment as usual and thought everything was fine. When the nurse called me back to see the doctor, Dr. Velez was very supportive towards this. Knowing my past history of having High Blood Pressure he was concerned when I had elevated protein in my urine and my pressure was high. He immediately sent to the hospital to get on the monitor. His concerns were accurate I was in the early stages of PE, not understanding what was happening to me and being afraid that I might have to terminate my pregnancy we decided to transfer me to another speciality hospital. This was Jan. 16th 1996 by the time I was transfered to University of Iowa Hospital. I was scared during this time and the doctors made me feel at ease. Well 10 days past and my Blood Pressure was still elevated and by then I was swollen beyond normal. They placed me on Mag Sulfate, I hated it by this time I was ready to delivery my son. On Jan. 26, 1996 My son was Billy was born. He was 8 weeks early and his weight was 2lbs 15 oz. he was a mircle baby for me. He stayed in Neonatal ICU. I was unable to see him for over 2 days due to having a minor fever. After 3 days I was released from the hospital although he had to stay I went home. This was the most difficult decision I had to make. Finally after 25 days in the hospital Billy was released. Billy came home weighing 4lbs 5oz. Billy is now a growing 10 year old boy who does have some problems with different areas in his life including school.
This is my story about my pregnancy and the problems I had with PE
