My name is Ashley Anderson I am 23 and I live in Florida. Around my 24 week in pregancy I was sent to meteranl fetal medicene due to a ultrasound that showed a thick skin on my babys neck, which the doctors said could be a sign of down syndrome. I was devistated, but this attention to my pregancy proved to save my baby and me.The maternal fetal medicene Dr. had told me to stop working and do very little else, due to my blood pressure but I was not on complete bed rest. That weekend I checked my blood pressure at a store it was very high. I went to the hospital and was monitered and sent home becasue it was going down with rest. I was going to my regular Dr. one day a couple days later around my 28 week Imy blood pressure was 150/100 my Dr. acted like nothing was the matter. I told him I had gone to the hospital last week , he did not seem concerened.I also told him I didi not feel good and he said it was just pregancy. The only Dr. that seemed concerend and even talked about delivering me early was the maternal fetal medicene Dr. A week later I had a pain in my chest (like heartburn) they worst pain and it would not go away. I waited all day then called the Dr. office they told me it could wait till the next day and then I could come inthey also told me that I did not need to go to the hospital that night. I waited an hour and went to the hospital because I knew something was wrong. My blood pressuere was very high I was at the hopital for 4 hrs when the blood test came back and I was rushed to another hospital and had my baby within a couple hours. My baby was born 6 weeks early and had to stay at the hospital only a week, but it mad me sick.I felt if the Dr had listened to me about how I was feeling and how high my blood pressure had gotten only days earlier it could have been prevented. In fact he said my blood pressure was good. I found this weird but did not question because he was the Dr. Next pregnancy I will watch my own blood pressure very closely and I will decide when I need help, not ask the nurse on call at the Drs office what to do. I hope everyone gets treatment when needed. You should listen to your body not jsut doctors!!!!!
