i had my daughter in 2005. i was unaware of this condition but have had, altho never really treated before pregnant, high bp. i went in to see my dr. for my 36 wk check up and for cultures. my bp was thru the roof and he noticed my legs and feet were very swollen, which they had been for some time but i just thought that was part of being preg. and wasnt really that concerned just tried to keep my feet up as much as possible. but when he saw how high my bp was and the swelling he immediately told me that i was to go to the hospital admitting. that they would try to get my bp under control and that i was going to have a baby in 24 hrs. my jaw hit the floor i was not ready i had just had my baby shower the day b4 and hadnt even put the gifts away. we had not set up the crib or really had everything ready for her to come into the world. not to mention that i had no way of contacting my husband to tell him he was going to be a father sooner than we had anticipated. our cellphone had been shut off that weekend and he workd after hrs at a school doing janitorial work and no one was there to answer the phone. i had to call my in-laws and have them try to get ahold of him. needless to say he finally made it to the hospital that nite. they had admitted me and started giving me stuff to get my bp under control. they later gave me inducing stuff to try to induce labor but it was no use. the next morning i was told my dr wantd to do a c-section and they began prepping me for surgery. keep in mind this was not only my first child, but also my first surgery, and my first time id ever had to stay in the hospital so i was kinda nervous about it all.
they took me into the delivery room and gave me a spinal to numb me. it didnt work the first time. they had to do it again. this time it workd too well. i was numb from the neck down. i couldnt feel my hands or anything below my neck. i started to panic b/c i felt as if i couldnt get enough air. they said that i was breathing fine but put a mask over my mouth and i guess it put me to sleep...or something else did. i woke up to the sound of my daughter crying and my husband holding her in his arms while they were closing me up. for thos of u that need a laugh...my husband told me that i was snoring on the operating table....and he said that he had lookd over the sheet they had up to see what was going on. they suggestd that he stand back or he might pass out. he lookd the dr right in the eye and plainly told him " y? its no different than gutting a deer?" (yes he's a hunter) my ob still gets a kick out of that ever time we see him.
now its 4 yrs later. i am still suffering from high bp tho now its moderatly controlled. more so now that im preg again w/ our second child. my dr doesnt want a repeat of last time which i totally agree....i dont either.
After surviving a very traumatic first pregnancy with a nightmare delivery (30 hours of magnesium-induced hell, ending in an emergency c-section) and even more debilitating recovery, one would think I was DONE having children. Let's be ...
